Instead of using that Bill Moyers link as a crutch, can you state in one or two paragraphs how the Russians affected the 2016 presidential election?
This is a good time to remind everybody that Cal88's posts have always been super friendly to Russian and he frequently puts up propaganda that is preferred by Russian sources. He is not American and there is no reason to think he has any loyalty to America.
This may be sarcasm, forgive me if it is, but on immigration, you seem to have allegiance and "empathy" for everybody and everything except America. In other words, yet again, an unprincipled, partisan criticism. You don't care about "loyalty" to the country, you care that his viewpoints, and perhaps ideology, doesn't align with yours here.

The US intelligence community has confirmed that Russia got involved in our elections. They hacked and arranged the release of material intended to harm the Clinton campaign. They hacked voter rolls in various states and attempted hacks in others. They flooded social media with biased or fake news intended to harm one candidate. This is all known. There may be more that is still classified that we don't know.

Questioning the loyalty of citizens or residents on the basis of their national origin, nice going dajo... It's funny how some liberals turned into the worst kind of xenophobes after the elections.

Clinton colluded with the media and the DNC to undermine Sanders' candidacy, and to undermine the democratic process by for instance, actually cheating on the presidential debates, to name just one gross misconduct.

To the extent that this, and other information on the real nature of her campaign was kept from the public is a result of the failure of the MSM to shine the light on that kind of corruption. Had the media done its job, there wouldn't be a need for whistleblowers like Wikileaks. And instead of being outraged at the actual content of these revealed electoral wrongdoings, you're just shooting the messenger, and using Russia as a scapegoat. There is no evidence that Russia was involved in the DNC leaks, or that they've actually hacked the voting process, the way Karl Rove's operatives hacked the Ohio elections in 2004 to steal votes and flip that state for the GOP.

Do you really think that RT, Sputnik and some social media posts were the reason why Hillary and her billion dollar campaign, and the MSM in her pocket, lost in MI, WI, OH and PA?

There are currently five (5) active investigation in the U.S. looking at Russkie hacking and the '16 election.

Only those who have access to classified information can begin to guess how the Russkies affected the '16 election. But that's exactly why there's multiple investigation; to gather information about how it happened.

This is a separate question from whether or not the Russian government tried to influence the election. Such an attempt is worth an investigation/response regardless of how successful it was.

(Also, no large national election is decided by only ONE factor.)

He will soon enough be bending over forwards in Leavenworth or Attica depending on whether he goes down on federal or state charges.
Bearister: Finally, after a fairly steady stream of these pronouncements from you, I have to ask whether you (a) are just papering the future on the theory that doing so actually makes that future more likely, (b) actually know something behind such confident pronouncements that we don't know to the effect that all the evil Republican donors and Fox Newsers won't be able to put Trumpty-Dumpty together again.

http://billmoyers.com/story/trump-russia-timeline/
I already knew all that stuff; and it has been public for quite a while. Also, there's the bank in one of the small Mediterranean countries (Cyprus, Malta, I can't remember right now) which has been notorious for years for being a center of Russian money laundering, and on the Board of which, for a lot of years, was a current cabinet member.

The point is: Why has all of that not been front and center in all the public debate about the current Administration? [Answer: Probably because the 1% wanted to ride this useful tool to the tax grab they just got through]

Next question: Even assuming the 1% is ready to let Trump go (and the Senate allowing debate on immigration legislation is a sign of that - with the idea that they still feel that totally alienating the Hispanic Community is too dangerous for the Right Wing (seeing the effect it had in California), is Trump's 40% base strong enough to withstand the forces that the 1% can let loose?

So, all I am wondering is: Given the majorly insane political and financial forces that have been holding sway nationally, is complete confidence in Trump's downfall justified?

I have zero confidence that the Russia investigation will "bring Trump down" while Republicans control the House. If Democrats take control then the chances go up. Even a Democratic majority may find it more useful to have Trump kept in office but mired in scandal and unable to further any of his agenda.

If I have you confused with one of the dozen or so social justice warriors from the immigration thread where their internal logic was so palpably lacking in consistency and reason, so mired in warm prejudice, so obviously catered to their emotional attachment to the "other" no matter what the cost, one of which was the idea that it was an abomination to consider America's interests and priorties, I'll take your word for it and I apologize.

I was surprised to see the Stormy/Cohen story as the headline of the Fox News website right now. On the other hand, it does help them push down and almost out of sight the Porter/Kelly story. Based on the capacity of most Republicans to let Trump slide on all manner of disgusting behavior, I think most would see this hush money as sliding right off his greasy orange skin. Some, of course, will actually believe that Donald Trump, the man, was not somehow involved in the terms of this payment or that it was to suppress the truth of his adultery.

Cohen may have screwed up bigly. Stormy's attorneys are now claiming Cohen breached the NDA. If true, Stormy gets to keep the $130K and can sell her story to US and/or British tabloids for at least that much.

A few appearances on morning TV, late night, and Sunday shows and Trump's 29% approval rating among White wonen sinks even lower. There may be a tiny demographic that approves of having unprotected sex with a porn star when you're on your third marriage and your fifth kid is 4 months old, but good luck finding it. Also good luck to Falwell Jr, Franklin Graham, Tony Perkins, and Papa Huckabee in spinning this. Somebody needs to ask Kellyanne and Sarah Huckabee which of their young daughters they'd want married to Trunp or Porter.

In addition to not being Perry Mason, Cohen doesn't understand wag the dog diversions at all.

Oh she's going to get paid way more. I'd guess the bidding starts at a million. The Brit tabloids might couple it with photos on page 3. There will also be TV and video deals, both porn and a regular drama. She is going to cash in.

If there's enough video and hype, TV, porn or otherwise, I think that might sink Trump. Why not, nothing else can (yet) and it would be right in America's Puritanical wheelhouse. On that note...

Theoretical question, just for the hell of it. Would you sleep with Stormy Daniels if Trump didn't (or did), and you get a condom? (Happy Valentine's Day!)
