You mean like Kamala?

Kamala was elected as the Vice President of the US and was a US Senator before that

Elected as VP. Ok, you go with that.
You know how a Presidential ticket works, right?
Yah sure. You go with it too. Kamala was elected.
Elected to the same extent any VP is elected, yes. Both names go on the ballot.

And as has been noted, she has won other elections before. Which ones has Vivek won?

Vivek ran in the primaries for president. Kamala didn't.
You seem to have misunderstood the question: which elections has Vivek WON?

Hah, well I see that President Musk has weighed in. Let's see what comes of this!

Again, unless the Freedom Caucus loosens up, you cannot pass anything on Republican votes alone.

It's been 8 hours since Democrat leadership started the media blitz with "President Musk" and you're here just spreading that garbage, ha ha so funny.

Oh, I think it's been longer than that. He just now provided the first obvious opportunity to point it out.

What makes you think this is going to get easier then? The GOP House majority will be smaller.

Budget Reconciliation rules allow a party fully in power to pass 1 bill per year by simple majority for 3 items - revenue(?), spending(?) and something else that I don't remember. This can be done 1 time per fiscal (?) year...meaning Rs could do this in Jan for 2025 then again in Dec for 2026) by simple majority.

The Republicans can't get their own members to vote together as a unit now without defections. What makes you think that will change after January 20th?

It has never gone well politically for the party that shuts down the government.

I'd like to see the Republicans do something that stupid (again).

I think it is hilarious that all these so-called fiscal conservatives support Trump and the very first thing he wants to do is create an environment where he can spend as much money as he wants.

Which is not surprising because he added almost $8T to the debt last time he was in office.

We have seen this show before. It's a rerun. It's like people have the memory of a goldfish.

1. Politicians in general but Republican politicians in particular are spineless weasels. How they vote today has no bearing on what they do a month from now, at least for like 99% of them.
2. R's know that the House bill isn't going to fly in the Senate. The normal process is the two sides would negotiate, play chicken with the government shutting down, wanting to get home for Christmas, etc. But this time they waited so long any delay means shutting the government down. I suspect a bunch of the R's were just cutting to the chase with this vote.
3. It is a different dynamic when they have the power to do what. That equals pressure by the many on the few.

This doesn't answer my question. The issue is that Republicans can't get a majority vote in the House RIGHT NOW. How will this get easier when their margin gets smaller?

I have little hope that politicians will grow a spine in the next month, if ever. Presuming they will is foolish optimism.

I wouldn't like to see it because government shutdowns hurt people (and not just government employees).

But from a political standpoint, it is definitely not good for the party held responsible.

We agree. I cynically believe they would switch their votes precisely because they have no spine. When you have no core values the thing that is expedient today can be discarded tomorrow.

The question is whether the non mainstream media and social media buffoons can gaslight the public into believing the shutdown is the Democrats fault. How dare they choose not to bail out Trump and the dysfunctional GOP!

The shutdown will hurt me, though I've seen enough past government shutdowns to keep a healthy rainy day fund on hand just for these situations. I'll be OK unless a shutdown extends to Christmas 2025. It helps that we just paid off our mortgage a couple of months ago. I do worry about my younger co-workers that have only been working for a year or two and don't have much in savings. I remember being offered access to the local food bank during the last shutdown. I laughed it off, but some of us may need it if the shutdown last more than a few months.

Of course, a shutdown will impact many people that aren't government employees more than us, so I'm expecting a fairly short shutdown unless Musk decides to let us all eat cake.

Jeffries calls funding bill passage 'a victory'

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries called the passage of the government funding bill "a victory" for the American people during remarks after the vote.

"House Democrats have successfully stopped the billionaire Boys Club, which wanted a $4 trillion blank check by suspending the debt ceiling in order to enable them to cut Social Security, cut Medicare and cut nutritional assistance, while providing massive tax breaks for the wealthy, the well-off and the well-connected," he said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson supported the Bill.

"This is a good outcome for the country," said Johnson.

Dems finally figure out the art of "messaging". Now they sit back and wait for Trump's head to explode each time he hears somebody refer to "President Musk".

This is going to be better than a major WWF card. Somebody should sell popcorn.
