the following press release was issued by the stanford ad bernard muir:

"after considerable analysis in conjunction with the stanford economic department (we do not have an undergraduate business major) it is clear after reviewing supply (an overabundance of empty seats) vs demand (declining) that the men's basketball team's home game revenues are not being optimized at this point"

"therefore effective immediately all preseason stanford basketball games will be played at south park hs (seating capacity 392) in an effort to create a cozy, loud home court advantage"

"while it is undeniably true that playing the pac 12 slate at a predominantly empty maples pavilion will create a home court advantage for visiting pac 12 institutions, the fiscal impact and influx of capital generated by predominantly affluent and good looking relentlessly frenzied cal fans cannot be ignored and its signficant impact upon the palo alto economic footprint"

"i would also like to take this opportunity to 100% reaffirm my support for johnny dawkins...there will be no further comment from this office regarding coach dawkins and his contractual employment with this department until the cardinals are once again mathematically eliminated from the ncaa field of 65 teams tournament"

the following press release was issued by stanford hc johnny dawkins:

"i would like to thank ad muir for his transparent & much appreciated support of my current employment as the head basketball coach of stanford university"

"as for the decision to move our preseason games to south park hs to better reflect demand for stanford basketball tickets, i'm proud to be associated with this move and appreciate the tangible support from our new fans stan, kyle, eric, kenny and butters...we are growing stanford bb in a very methodical way, one real fan at a time"

"but make no mistake about, i'm a realist too...with a 39-51 pac 12 record it's pretty obvious to me that i'm being clownpunked by opposing pac 12 head coaches on almost a nightly basis"

"therefore, change must happen...instead of my current 30 second humiliating one sided speeches at centercourt that i do after every substitution, i'm going to increase the length of these orations to a full minute...while some of you have communicated to me that these public whippings seem rather taliban like with the dazed players silently stewing with dead eyes and mechancially shaking their heads in agreement with me, i feel strongly that these interactions not only improve their basketball skills but also prepare our student athletes for marriage"

"stanford fans, i am also pleased to announce that i 100% guarantee that our stanford basketball program will be going to the ncaa tournament this year!"

"in fact, i have already completed a contractual rental agreement for the usage of several buses from south park hs to transport our coaches, players & staff to watch this year's western regionals!"

"go cardinals!"

theo robertson is the greatest 3 pt shooter in cal history...robertson shot a cal best 44% during his career including an amazing 48.7% his jr yr...for comparison, nba sharpshooter alan crabbe shot 34.8% & the bears team shot 30.2% on 3 pters last season

so does incoming monster class volume scorer jordan mathews have a chance to challenge theo robertson's shooting records?

theo told me "jordan is a very skilled shooter...he has been making shots at an extremely high clip so far in practice...we will have have to see what he does when the lights come on...he will no doubt be a good shooter though"

theo robertson was not only a lights out long range shooter for the bears but also a highly respected teammate who often unselfishly played out of position because of cal's lack of depth at the time...he also was a lock down defender with a steely demeanor & a tireless work ethic

monty made a tactically wise decision in hiring robertson as the director of basketball operations as theo was not paid in his prior role with the program...theo is hopefully being groomed to eventually be on the bench as an asst coach...robertson could be a an older brother figure to bears recruiting targets in relentlessly watching them play in 100+ hs/aau games all the while explaining to players & their families from 1st hand experience the keys to balancing big time basketball with world class educational opportunities

theo robertson=old school
jordan mathews=new school

With all due respect to Theo and his leading percentage, that does not necessarily make him "the greatest 3 point shooter in Cal history."

He was never the featured 3 point threat on the team. He played with Ryan Anderson, Jerome Randle, and Patrick Christopher, all of whom were launching more 3's. And often more difficult 3's, since they were rightly perceived by opponents to be the ones to be stopped, in order to beat our Bears.

It is hard to say who was the greatest, but I would put Ryan, Jerome, and Allen all ahead of Theo, despite his higher career percentage.

Go Bears!

Theo had a high percentage because he was very judicious in his shooting (Omar Wilkes was similar--pretty much only shooting if uncontested) and usually shot from the exact same spot on the baseline. If a defender came out on him he would pass to a teammate or fake the shot and put the ball on the floor and take the ball inside for a lay-up or a pull up jumper. Simply formula, but extremely effective. It is exactly what Kreklow, Wallace, Powers, Johnson, Moute, maybe even Bird (at least initially) should look to emulate.

Mathews is clearly a scorer. He can shoot from anywhere.

That impacts Stanford in a big way too. If Looney had picked Duke, Reid Travis probably goes to Palo Alto. He might anyway.

There was a wonderful interview recently with Bernard King, who said that he had precisely five spots on the floor from which he was as close to being guaranteed not to miss as anyone in the game, and that he would choose which spot to go to depending on how the defender was playing him. There was no way a defender (or maybe even two) could play him so as to preclude him from getting to one of those five spots.

Maybe we're a bubble team maybe if you forecast virtually ZERO improvement from our 5 freshmen over the course of the year. I have a feeling they'll be a lot better when they get some experience. We should be a tournament lock.

part of the crazee bears last season was that the team's best two players ac & jc would sometimes inexplicably & simultaneously go into a grand constipated funk of relentless unresolved angst & pissed off demeanor (please do not question my unimpeachable deadly accurate personality diagnosis skills...i took psych 1 at cal) in several of cal's losses...wonder where they learned that, mr cranky pants

team chemistry should be significantly upgraded this season as t wall's mr brightside (i'm coming out of my cage and i'm doing just fine) personality & justin cobb's sr leadership shine thru

travis decuire told me "jc wears his emotions on his sleeves...it's a gift and a curse...it's an emotional game...he is working to lean out...he will be looking to be quicker and more explosive this year"

td did not respond to my question if jc is developing a yoga practice...

I think the big thing with Solo is that he probably just does not know how he looks when he complains about a call, and thinks his protestation is just like any other player on the court. It is not, and maybe he should be shown replays of his gesticulations over and over again and asked how he would react being the recipient of same. Probably "call another foul" which I think happens. In the past I have been critical of his "body language" on the court, but maybe it is just natural for him, much like someone being very loud by nature.
He does need to tone it down both for his benefit and the teams.

*****jordan mathews-disrespected by every recruiting service despite being the ocean league mvp & volume scorer@santa monica...recruiting analyst josh gershon told me 7 months ago that among west coast shooting guards that zach lavine, marcus allen, isaac hamilton & darin johnson "all definitely have more scoring upside than jordan mathews"...wonder if gershon saw jm light it up as the bears leading scorer in sat's scrimmage?

*****kameron rooks-given a backhanded compliment by arizona's sean miller...k(rooks) was offered a scholly by the wildcats but told he would need to redshirt his 1st yr in tuscon...well guess what, mr former fat boy has worked his azz off to lose signficant weight and transform his body (kudos to scott thom too) & now looks the part of a pac 12 stud like his dad sean

Note about Solo and the refs at the exhibition:

One of his late fouls came on defense in the paint where the offensive player kind of jumped into him to initiate the contact. He didn't appear to reach, just got the shooter with his body I think. After the call he looked exasperated, but later, during one of the timeouts, he sought out the ref and had a good 20-30 second conversation with him to get clarification. From where I sat he didn't appear to be complaining, rather trying to understand so he can avoid similar calls and improve. This was a guy I recognize as a regular P12 ref but I don't know his name. They were smiling the whole time, and he ended it with a pat on the refs butt.

So that seems like a big step forward for Solo IMO. I don't recall seeing him do that before and I typically watch for those types of things between whistles.
