2023 independence bowl schedule:

bears practiced today & will also practice next week on tuesday (the 5th) & thursday (the 7th) before practicing again on the weekend of the 8-10th which also be a major recruiting official visits weekend in berkeley

then the majority of the team will fly out on wednesday the 13th during the berkeley finals week of december 11th thru the 15th which will require significant proctoring of final examinations at the team hotel...good news is that the grad cert program veterans will be finishing finals next week (and the not the week of december 11th) & will be fully immersed in bowl week practices & activities with zero academic responsibilities

wednesday december 13th will be the kick off dinner with both teams (texas tech defensive coordinator is tim deruyter & marcel yates is also on the raiders staff) being served alligators & ****...no top dog in shreveport baby

mateen is a special person, it's very disappointing that the exceptional preferred walk on with academic ambition is not gonna earn a degree from the #1 ranked public university in the world

Shocky let's be honest. This move is STUPID and directly contradicts one of Greg and Kevin's points of emphasis. It does absolutely nothing to help Cal win football games going forward. Unbelievable really.

It was the difference early, particularly the loss to Auburn. Who knows how the season goes if we make those FGs? But I don't know if Luckhurst made those in practice. Thst said, So'oto is not allocating scholarships. Mateen obviously thinks he can get one or some NIL to pay for college. Maybe even <eventually> from Cal.? No one is necessarily <wrong> here. I would not be surprised if Mateen is a walk on somewhere with a promise to have a scholie if he performs. Yes, kind of like here initially. I don't think schools are going to be jumping out at him. Not a knock. Just probably the market for kickers who are not seen as elite.

89 & calalumnus, in speaking with mateen's parents at the oakland airport for 15 minutes it wuz very clear that they are both highly educated & have instilled that academic ambition in their remarkable son

based on this conversation ima of the option that mateen is not gonna trade a degree from the #1 public university in the world in order to get a scholly at a nau, nevada or sacramento state bottom feeder degree skool...ucla makes the most sense as the bruins need an ice in his veins accurate scholly kicker, the family's home in so cal & a very good (but not world class) ucla education

if ucla don't offer a scholly, this could get very interesting...
