Deduct it from his salary. He extended Fox and increased the buyout by $1.9 million. He on contract for 7(?) more years? That is is $271K per year. He is paid $1.3 million per year, so he'd still make over $1 million per year.
I can't believe we pay Jim Knowlton $1.3 million per year. That is just SO….

tequila, seriously doubt that jk believes in the 3-17 fox, this is more about the con artist believing in retaining funding within the athletic department (hence his poorly received request for donor dollars to buyout the head coach) for his annual $1,300,000+ salary & empire of olympic sports that almost nobody cares abouttequila4kapp said:

chris, you should give much consideration to returning to berkeley as soon as possible to finish your berkeley degree & ensure a bright future
with summer school work included you should have close to 3 years of credits, get a year's worth of student loans (your football scholly is gone) & work your azz off to earn your diploma from the #1 ranked public university in the world
there's no point in looking back, let's focus on the future

I saw him, during the 2nd half of that game, chatting up people in the row right up from the Cal bench. Everyone in the row was all smiles, but not the other 2,000 or so folks in Haas (the rest of us couldn't find much to smile about).

I would keep track and field (we have had football players who participate in T&F, so cutting the sport may impact recruiting, plus it will impact African-American admissions), rugby (our most successful program bar none (and isn't it self-funding); but add women's rugby for Title IX purposes), and soccer (most popular sport in the world).Shocky1 said:JB was a Chieftain said:

jb, the following 7 step plan will be completed by future athletic director andrew mcgraw during his first 30 days in office after jk is walked to his car:
1) burn all of the con artist's hockey photos/signed trading cards and fake architectural renderings of his proposed $125,000,000+ quidditch facility in the dumpster behind haas
2) cut the following men's sports thereby creating the necessary male athlete count reductions to facilitate a comparable number (135 slots) of female reductions in compliance with title ix to rightsize knowlton's current empire of 30+ teams that are financially unsustainable:
men's rugby (58 roster slots): advise bully jack clark the rugby program will move forward as a club sport
baseball (36 roster slots): advise stu gordon why this needs to happen for the overall health of the athletic department & then repurpose evans diamond for greater university needs including expansion of rsf to ensure that the athletic needs of ALL berkeley students are met
soccer (28 roster slots): nobody gives a **** about this team
cross country (13 roster slots): currently an all white team that consistently loses to bay area division 3 schools, mark fox level of ineptitude
evaluate the termination of both track teams & the impact upon black student athletes gaining admissions opportunities to berkeley and the repurposing of edwards stadium
plz note that all affected student athletes will have their schollys honored thru graduation
3) terminate mark fox & advise doug goldman & the haas family that joe pasternak (who will hire theo robertson & richard midgely as assistant coaches & lou richie as an academic/life analyst) will be the next head coach and ask for their support in funding a much scaled back significantly less expensive men's & women's basketball only facility (bishop o'dowd just built a similar facility for $40,000,000) and also nil support for bears basketball players
4) terminate the employment of the following worthless bureaucrats:

jennifer simon-o'neil: mckeever's enabler, runs the department's unsuccessful women's programs such as volleyball, basketball, field hockey, cross country, etc.
tom lowry: hired from the air force with an anti football bias
markeisha everrett: completely unqualified having never worked on the west coast or sold football/basketball tixs, abject failure to rightsize the 11 person communications dept to 2-3 staffers
5) set up advisory committees for football (shane vareen, jared goff, beastmode, etc.) & men's basketball (shareef abdur rahim, jason kidd, jaylen brown, etc.) to ensure both revenue producing teams receive the necessary funding for program excellence
6) make all football & men's basketball tickets free for students & gift them the best seats in the haas to ensure a future season tixs & major whale donor pipeline

evaluate the termination of both track teams & the impact upon black student athletes gaining admissions opportunities to berkeley and the repurposing of edwards stadium
plz note that all affected student athletes will have their schollys honored thru graduation
4) terminate the employment of the following worthless bureaucrats:
teri mckeever: evil as **** she's gonna sue berkeley no matter what anyways
jennifer simon-o'neil: mckeever's enabler, runs the department's unsuccessful women's programs such as volleyball, basketball, field hockey, cross country, etc.
tom lowry: hired from the air force with an anti football bias
markeisha everrett: completely unqualified having never worked on the west coast or sold football/basketball tixs, abject failure to rightsize the 11 person communications dept to 2-3 staffers
7) appoint shocky as the recruiting/nutrition/movement director for the dance/cheer teams to ensure a solid team of curvy brunette yoga females with high gpas & tight azzs

I would cut gymnastics (seriously, who cares?), volleyball, swimming & diving.
Cutting baseball would be sad, but it may be inevitable.

2024 cal's monster offensive line recruiting summary:
in addition to the recruitments of all world tackle manasse itete from modesto christian & high priority early december grad/today's unofficial visitor gibson pyle from klein cain, the staff has extended offers this week to the following 6 offensive line prospects
the goal is to get as many of them as possible to attend cal's 2023 junior day on march 4th at memorial stadium to compete against other high upside prospects & also gauge reciprocal interest at that time, then a 2024 o-line big board will be constructed

in coaches mike bloesch & mike saffell we trust (cal's monster offensive line)#
Olympic Swimming always gets good ratings. Water Polo used to have big crowds at Cal, standing room only, when played before a home football game in the morning. And yes, I have become a soccer fan in recent years, but, if you want to go there, most college soccer is the equivalent of Single A baseball, when you consider the guys turning pro, and/or going to academies. And if you are being specific to Cal, dropping volleyball gives back more indoor space time, but giving up T+F and soccer, would free up an incredible amount of property. Again, not sure what giving up swimming buys you...literally.southseasbear said:Of course I'm speaking personally. I can't imagine going to an aquatics complex to watch live swimming or waterpolo. At least with diving, the action occurs outside the water. How many students and alumni attend these events?mbBear said:what would cutting swimming get you? Incredible facility, and highly supported/endowed....extended branding at the Olympics and in the NCAA's as a bonus.southseasbear said:I would keep track and field (we have had football players who participate in T&F, so cutting the sport may impact recruiting, plus it will impact African-American admissions), rugby (our most successful program bar none (and isn't it self-funding); but add women's rugby for Title IX purposes), and soccer (most popular sport in the world).Shocky1 said:JB was a Chieftain said:
What is the 7 step plan when you are named AD shocky? I want to know how Cal can be saved
jb, the following 7 step plan will be completed by future athletic director andrew mcgraw during his first 30 days in office after jk is walked to his car:
1) burn all of the con artist's hockey photos/signed trading cards and fake architectural renderings of his proposed $125,000,000+ quidditch facility in the dumpster behind haas
2) cut the following men's sports thereby creating the necessary male athlete count reductions to facilitate a comparable number (135 slots) of female reductions in compliance with title ix to rightsize knowlton's current empire of 30+ teams that are financially unsustainable:
men's rugby (58 roster slots): advise bully jack clark the rugby program will move forward as a club sport
baseball (36 roster slots): advise stu gordon why this needs to happen for the overall health of the athletic department & then repurpose evans diamond for greater university needs including expansion of rsf to ensure that the athletic needs of ALL berkeley students are met
soccer (28 roster slots): nobody gives a **** about this team
cross country (13 roster slots): currently an all white team that consistently loses to bay area division 3 schools, mark fox level of ineptitude

teri mckeever: evil as **** she's gonna sue berkeley no matter what anyways
jennifer simon-o'neil: mckeever's enabler, runs the department's unsuccessful women's programs such as volleyball, basketball, field hockey, cross country, etc.

markeisha everrett: completely unqualified having never worked on the west coast or sold football/basketball tixs, abject failure to rightsize the 11 person communications dept to 2-3 staffers
5) set up advisory committees for football (shane vareen, jared goff, beastmode, etc.) & men's basketball (shareef abdur rahim, jason kidd, jaylen brown, etc.) to ensure both revenue producing teams receive the necessary funding for program excellence

I more or less like keeping soccer, but the world popularity and it's tie-in to it's existence at Cal means very little, unless we somehow see the attendance improving, revenue improving in the new TV world...but I'm skeptical...
Soccer is a growing sport in this country (and, as I said, the #1 sport in the world). And its far more interesting to watch in person than swimming, diving, waterpolo, volleyball, etc. (Though I admit that's my personal bias.)

Are there really that many people going to see basketball games this year?oski003 said:Polodad said:

Cal basketball gets 4,000-5000 paid attendance per game when lousy. 10k when good. Spieker holds 900 but can be maxed out to 2500 with temporary seating. Not the same.
