More plays will mean more yards and more points on average. But you can normalize by looking at metrics like yards per play, points per possession, etc.

True. But more plays takes a toll on the players. That is my larger concern. Cal plays with less depth generally than their peers. Especially USC, UO, UW and UCLA. But sure the yards per play and points per possession are good metrics. Maybe the best metrics.

But 10 additional plays a game means nearly 2 additional games when you played games previously that were approximately 60 plays defended. Through 5 conference games the Cal defense has been on the field for 33:37 on average. Last in the conference. That is a lot of additional plays against strong offensive teams. Not ideal.

Not a surprise that the defense had trouble getting off the field in the 4th quarter of the recent losses.

Yeah, I guess the assumed positive tradeoff is that your offense is better at playing fast and puts up enough points to swamp the opposition anyway.

Of course, that means you can't turn it over three times in the fourth quarter.

the scheduling of the still not disclosed 4th out of conference game is gonna be critical to the bowl eligibility aspirations of the bears next year in the all important 1st season in the acc but also to the development/confidence building of the defense

a a-c-c-d sec kinda schedule is the model in today's collegiate game, we r ****** if the 4th game is a legit program just because knowlton needs more tix sales because of his impotent mismanagement of cal financials, his dumb as **** sunshine letters are not fooling anybody

agreed with all that getting the defense off the field is vital, playing a less potent offense in the 4th out of conference game will give sirmon's unit another opportunity to build upon forcing takeovers & impact plays behind the line of scrimmage particularly sacks, that's not happening right now as clock time of possession is favoring our opponents

2023 golf magazine world top 100 list:

as someone who has played all the world top 100 lists since 1997, very interested in receiving today an advance release of the 2023 rankings (ranked every 2 years) which will be publicly released in a couple of weeks
https://top100golf.blogspot.com/2006/01/people-who-have-played-top-100-golf.html

fun fact: my former caddie home course san francisco golf club is #38, the cal club is #45 while the olympic lake (#96 in the 2021 rankings) drops out of the world top 100, the just completed gil hanse renovation will hopefully add some fun & more strategic options to the design along with eliminating the weird walk to the 8th tee box from the 7th green...also looking forward to playing coore & crenshaw's brambles when it formally opens in 2024, yeah it's just up the hill from the future t-rex yoga studio in yountville

there are 8 new additions to the 2023 rankings:

#68 the lido (not played)...tom doak's replica based upon historical documents in wisconsin of the charles blair mcdonald no longer in existence masterpiece on long island...slim wadie & shocky will be visiting the sand valley resort next june

#76 point hardy (not played)...coore & crensahw design on the clifftops in st lucia

#85 te arai south (not played)...coore & crenshaw design in the sand dunes north of auckland...slim wadie (who has never been to nz) & shocky gotta a february g2c2 (global golf centurion club) new zealand trip which will also include tara iti (ranked#20), tom doak's te arai (north) course & another trip to my favorite resort in the world cape kidnappers

#88 lofoten links (played)...in northern norway (home of the spectacular northern lights in the winter) shocky played a round in the morning, went with my kids to the beach all afternoon, took an evening sofa king nap & then played a round teeing off at the stroke of midnight

#95 shanqin bay (played)...this coore & crenshaw gem on the cliffs of hainan island in china is my favorite course in asia, there's nothing even remotely close in terms of greatness

#96 victoria (played)...very cool mackenzie design in melbourne's sand belt region, this clever australian course with spectacular bunkering starts with a downhill drivable par 4 with a million potential strategies

#97 machrihanish (played)...on a remote scottish isle sits arguably the greatest starting 1st hole in golf

#100 royal cinque ports (played)...the low key kinda scruffy english club got wild azz greens with tumultuous undulations

so right now schulzie is a 97 with 3 to go to complete the latest quest

shocky's rankings of the world top 100 golf course rankings: the truth behind the lies

full disclosure: the monster has served/advised to each of the following top 100 lists at one point or another & is not known for keeping his mouth shut

1. planet golf rankings: run solely by australian darius oliver who is one of the top 5 golf travelers in the world along with me, his lists are authentically accurate & celebrate golf as a walking athletic endeavor in some of the most beautiful places on planet earth
https://www.planetgolf.com/rankings/worldwide/planet-golf-world-100/current

2. top100golfcourses.com: run by david davis of amsterdam this list got a complement of knowledgeable architecture aficionados who span the globe
https://www.top100golfcourses.com/top-100-golf-courses-of-the-world

3. golf week: with 800 raters paying $300 annual dues plus the requirement to attend one of the "retreats" every 2 years, this is really just a dues/travel agency monetized money maker for the publication with an alarming # of golfers that can't break 100 or physically walk 18 holes anymore despite a lotta passionate architecture enthusiasts who are studious
https://golfweek.usatoday.com/lists/best-public-golf-courses-2023-ranking-each-state-you-can-play/

4. golf magazine: no longer taken seriously be the purists because of the conflicts in voting imbedded in the program, grifter steve lapper has brokered deals for the inclusion of foreign courses with david smith via former architecture editor joe passov (who shocky helped get fired), sold panelist slots on behalf of current architecture editor ran morrissett & got a free membership at trump bedminister by selling rankings to the donald...lapper is the most corrupt person in the golf rankings game in his continued sorry azz effort to pay his bills
https://golf.com/travel/courses/top-100-golf-courses-world-2023-24/

5. golf digest: with 1700 raters paying $250 annual dues this is also just a monetized deal (do the math, ok?) for the magazine kinda like the golf week deal...only rating service that got a playing ability requirement, must have a 5 or less handicap to be appointed to the panel (shocky wuz a 4.8 index back in the day when he wuz invited to the panel)...list is rift with poorly routed unwalkable cartball only dog tracks due to wonky scoring/grading system that favors modern designs with high slope ratings

I think WSU could have a lot of players enter. They have a WR that if he enters I want to Cal to go hard after. Kyle Williams is a very good player. Played with Nohl Williams at UNLV. 2 time all academic player in MWC. Not sure of his graduation status but if the WSU HC leaves as many believe he will get a free waiver.

They should not do that. But if they do that game has to be in Berkeley. They are no longer conference opponents so the rotating schedules no longer apply. Additionally they will also have G5 status.

And both OSU and WSU have filed suit against Cal and the other 9. No need to play nice and be friends. Any games with those two should be played at Memorial.

Notre Dame annual scheduling with the 5 ACC teams is what needs to be figured out first.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
^ agreed w/alky, nothing is gonna happen with cal's critical 4th out of conference football scheduling until the notre dame lineup for 2024 is determined

while it would be fun as a fan for us to play the irish in 2024, it's significantly more important that the bears schedule a winnable game (following the sec a-c-c-d difficulty model) to move the program towards bowl eligibility in the 1st acc season...and with continued nil donations at risk due to the 2023 season/donor fatigue a winning 2024 season is imperative

a home & away with a beatable texas school would be ideal to supplement our protected rivalry roadtrip to dallas to play smu next fall...rice (a roni) would be ideal, the san francisco treat

scheduling oregon state or washington state out of sympathy would be literally the dumbest ******* move of all time which is probably why knowlton is considering it

remember this is the worthless bureaucrat who along with markeisha (who is the dumbest person in the room) tole us that cal is getting a full revenue share from the acc but we're donating most of it back to our fellow acc schools for the foreseeable future to fully support our new conference affiliations

the 1st time the con artist ever transparently tells us the truth about cal's financials in the athletic dept, it will be the very 1st time

we're here now & then (reality escapes the con artist)#
