monster selection of the 2023 most improved player in the pac 12:

not even close it's hard working inside backer kaleb alarms-orr who is tied for 4th in the conference with 87 tackles

kaleb is from hayward's moreau catholic high school & his moms kameelah ran track at uc davis before later earning a berkeley degree while running around campus with her then little boy & future bear...berkeley is in keo's blood

yeah in 2024 keo gotta opportunity to lead the acc in tackles, move up the nfl draft boards & play his final home games at memorial stadium with his moms hugs just minutes after the games as they share/celebrate hopefully his completion of a degree from the #1 ranked public university in the world

football is a violent sport, it can end on the next play, a berkeley degree is kinda like a moms love, it's truly forever

shocky is a mama's boy too (someday we're gonna walk in the rays of a beautiful sun)#

Are the spartans in need of a QB? Any chance he follows Smith?

azul, dj is probably gonna declare for the nfl or transfer to smith's already familiar offensive scheme in lansing instead of learning a new system in corvallis

Even if that's where DJ is headed, it is a strong argument for him to grab a six-figure NIL payment for next season because it's the last time he will make significant money playing football. His 2024 NIL payment will probably be at least 20 times what he would make playing QB in the XFL or CFL.

The same is true of nearly all the QBs who have put their names in the transfer portal so far. They'll never play in the NFL, and they are looking for one solid NIL payday before they move on to selling insurance or becoming a PE teacher and assistant high school football coach.

To make your kind of argument, though: Would the Duke QB who put his name in the portal be better off in the long term getting a BA from Duke and then taking advantage of Duke connections after he graduates? Probably so.

DJ wants to play for a major program which Oregon State was until the PAC-12 collapsed, and he has enough talent for an NFL franchise to sign him, so he wants some good tape to show to scouts, he has not lived up to the 5-star hype but his raw ability does show at times.

sd & strykur, agree with everything u wrote but players (and their dads) are often delusional re: their nfl prospects such as elite tackling safeties who lack the footspeed to protect in passing coverage against pac 12 tight ends that are never gonna get paid in the nfl after they are exposed with a time watch on pro day unless they embark on a yearlong speed/track program to vastly improve their 40s times

Agree regarding Bloesch. AT is a keeper. Toler is a Cal guy and a good guy. But I am far from sold on his actual coaching. We hear he is a great recruiter and yet WR is a position that Cal may dig deep into the portal again.

^ the bears are gonna be solid at wr in 2024, a lotta speed in the room & we played a pretty tight 3-4 wideout rotation in 2023 plus it's probably the easiest position for newcomers to plug & play

cal's monster offensive line, on the other hand, is way more complicated

coach bloesch is the key#

6'3" 305 lbs san diego state grad transfer with 2 years of remaining eligibility cade bennett is a unicorn, an impact starter with academic ambition that changes the upward trajectory of cal's monster offensive line

all 3 of my kids (shay & taylor wuz on the cheer squads) graduated from notre dame high school (slater zellers wuz also a grad) here in north scottsdale & i've seen cade play multiple times under friday nite lites for the saints in high school as a relentless motor smash mouth high gpa student athlete...remember being surprised when he committed to oklahoma state

89 & willem, +1000 (wifey is on the money except when he's putting or replacing spark plugs or something)

keep in mind that knowlton & his obstinate marketing dumb azz markeisha tole bears fans (some of the smartest people on planet earth) that cal wuz gonna get a "full share" from the acc but that we wuz gonna donate back tens of millions of dollars of future revenues to "support" our new conference partners...wut???

in that coach bloesch didn't actively recruit the left coast during his time at tulsa & north texas, future head coach in waiting mike saffell's background prospect info on previous cal recruits is gonna be very important in the rapid evaluations of any potential oregon state & washington state trench worker transfer portal entrants when it reopens on december 4th for 30 crazy azz days

buckle up (this **** is getting live)#

cal's monster offensive line update:

and so we are at the crossroads of coach wilcox's head coaching career, his appointment of the next offensive coordinator will determine both the short & long term future of the cal football program...and yeah as an aside it will also determine whether or not this thread continues or maybe just becomes a golf only thread re: our college team & pga professionals

shocky's recommendation is that mike bloesch be promoted to offensive coordinator with a multi year locked in contract (with huge financial penalties for leaving early) & mike saffell (haas biz ad grad) be promoted to offensive line coach...wut they lack in experience they more than make up in intense intelligence & adaptive personalities, they are both ready for a bigger stage

and then offer matthew cindric (also a haas biz ad grad) saffell's current position as a pathway to a coaching career

for the 1st time during justin's tenure the offense got an identity, it's *******smashmouth run the ball down ur ******* throats with the pac 12's leading rusher behind cal's monster offensive line

the final 7+ minute unstoppable drive (even tho the bruins knew wut wuz coming) against ucla honestly brought tears to my eyes, it wuz like this weird opera of domination with the flashing blue light of the future clearly visible across the water

the time is now (for everything)#

hero world pga tour tournament update for the 1st round:

in the exclusive 20 player field in the bahamas both max homa & colin morikawa shot 3 under par 69s & are tied for 4th place but overshadowed by tiger's 75 in his return to competitive golf for the first time since the masters

both max (winner in south africa) & colin (winner in japan) are coming off tournament wins & playing solid in their final tournament for the 2023 season, they won't tee it up again until the tournament of champions at kapalua in maui in early january of 2024

fun fact: colin recently moved on from his childhood swing coach rick sussinghaus in so cal & is now working with max's swing coach mark blackburn who has transformed homa's swing into a flatter plane with flawless mechanics...maybe the two of them can take a group lesson together or something with their new coach?...maybe blackburn offers groupon classes?
