Lot of good points. Let's get bigger picture. There probably is a fair amount of institutional support coming which is a short term solution only. With revenue share, cannibalism of donor revenues through NIL, title 9 compliance subsidies of unprofitable sports, and likely drops in interest from some level of fans who are turned off by all the changes in college sports, programs like UCLA and Cal are in trouble. It is pretty clear the next round of TV contracts, as least for the B1G and maybe SEC, will not be nearly as lucrative, and structural changes are coming, absent a huge change in the way business is conducted or Congressional bail out. Cal needs to be at the forefront of these changes or lose its athletic program competing in the top tier Just my opinion, but it seems to be everyone is just waiting for Lyons to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

wifey, that's exactly what needs to happen, chancellor lyons needs to fire knowlton with cause from the mckeever fiasco & then appoint andrew mcgraw as the next athletic director to innovatively move a streamlined balanced budget financially responsible program forward with fewer sport teams in compliance with title ix


if this don't happen, cal athletics as we know it will be done forever & ima not gonna be around for that ****show...that will be end of this thread, my attendance at all (home & away) cal football games & my fandom will be solely focused on our bears golf program (which could still win a ncca championship playing in a west coast centric conference) & pga superstars like collin morikawa, max homa, ben an & michael kim...at that point i will realistically never set foot on the berkeley campus again, there's a lotta world to see out there

sycasey, yeah corporate viewing platform decisions are sometimes surprising, would encourage you to consider making the roadtrip to winston-salem if possible for the november 8th friday nite battle with them deacons

my only idol bill coore (also lives in north scottsdale, his wife sue just shakes her head when she sees me walking towards her husband, shocky is gonna delay her while he asks inane questions to bill like "what wuz the strategic and asthetic thought process of the greenside bunkering guarding the short drivable 14th hole at the te arai south golf links north of auckland?") attended wake forest & tole me he used to walk thru a path in the trees from his dorm to the fabulous old town club (which c&c faithfully renovated to their original perry maxwell audacity a couple of years ago) where the golf team practiced/played...the area around campus is stunningly beautiful & a fall friday nite in that part of the world will be a unique experience

but at the same time as you drive to the old town club on quiet leafy roads there are grand entrances to some of the largest cigarette manufacturers in the world, this is also the cancer producing epicenter of death

so there's a lot to consider when visiting wake forest including the bizzaro realization that the school's mascot the demon deacon is shaped like a cigarette

Auburn is always on Central time...and people forget how far west Atlanta is located in the Eastern time zone.

Atlanta area resident for 8 years here, long time ago. Lived in Baton Rouge for 6 months once-that makes Auburn, Atlanta et. al feel like a trip to Eureka.

Special note: fav place to go that doesn't remain on Eastern time, therefore sometimes Central time: Playa Del Carmen. (See, set you up so you could carry on about Mayakoba...I'm nice this morning.)

mb, mucho gracias, mayakoba got good rooms/food but the norman designed golf course overly relies on the aerial game (which isn't how 95% of resort guests play the game) & is a 5+ hour lost ball nightmare unless u got the 1st tee time

case study: gavin meyer wuz 100% happy at wyoming & loved his cowboy teammates, he wuz looking forward to his final year of eligibility in laramie...gavin is an outdoorsy midwesterner & considers several of his teammates as his best friends

but after a stellar 2023 season he wuz encouraged by a program to explore potential options

cal's nil offer (won't mention specifics outta respect for cal legends) wuz strong & the opportunity to experience the bay area plus add berkeley to his future resume made the bears his early leader

gavin officially visited illinois & he already knew all about hometown wisconsin

cal is still in the driver's seat

but then he visits south central & they offer $500,000 in nil to wear the trojans uniform from now thru this season's final football game...gavin is not really a la/so cal kinda guy (he's got zero interest in drinking champagne with bottle girls in the back of a limo after a nite out at tao) but he's gotta accept the offer
