econ, trevor rogers from caldecott tunnel high school (and a long lineage of berkeley grads that bleed blue & gold and not orange) is not only track SPEED fast as **** but now he's now also built like a bad azz that can violently block on the edges thereby creating gaps in the running game while still remarkably looking kinda like a much higher gpa version of carrot top!!
somewhere on planet earth there's a curvy brunette yoga female from an academically mediocre school that will someday think 3.5 gpa trevor's carrot top hair is attractive or something...

The people who endlessly carped about the coaches being stupid for scheduling the series now have to eat a mountain of crow. Coaches were not only right, they were right for the exact reasons they thought this was a good idea.
As a non power team, Oregon State was decimated by the transfer portal and wholly unable to compete bringing in credible replacement given their vastly reduced finances. They spent all the limited money they did have this year on a splashy QB, but that's like a guy getting a flashy paint job for his car that has no engine. It's not going to get you where you want to go.
After we crushed OSU last year some of those who hated the scheduling admitted they were wrong. Others just doubled down saying "oh they had massive injuries and we were playing their 500th string defense" (as if Cal hadn't suffered any injuries of it's own). They were wrong then and they are wrong now.
Facts are Cal had pressure from the ACC to schedule a P5 team for this slot. OSU because of its weird situation qualified as being P5 without being able to field P5 talent. It was the perfect opportunity and given the other possibilities (Utah and BYU) the only rationale answer.
So hatters gonna hat, but the coaches were right on this one one and they should tell the whole damned world.
On to the next.

I think the argument was that Cal should have scheduled a non-P5 team to bank an extra easy win, but if the ACC wanted P5 then Oregon State was indeed the best option.

I was on the Donor Zoom when Phillips basically told JK that Cal should play OOC west coast teams that would improve SOS for rankings and minimize travel. So I think there is some substance to view that Cal was doing what the ACC wanted. Murphy may have had an up and down day with the Cal defense, but he is an upgrade, they have a good enough running attack and their defense has some talent. My gut reaction is OSU if they stay healthy is a 6 or 7 win team that gets to a bowl game, so the win at Corvallis looks pretty good when Cal hopefully is being sized-up for post-season play.

Many years ago I stole a visor signed by @davidtomsgolf from one of the kids at my junior camp and sold it on ebay for $9 plus shipping. It ended up not being worth the hassle. https://t.co/YXBb6Ogq5X

Shocky, some posters suggested I repost over here what I said on the insider board about the OSU scheduling since the topic is still being debated. Is the argument now "Yes, we crushed them last year and yes, we crushed them again this year, but it was still dumb?" At some point the outcome DOES factor into the analysis. it wasn't a fluke that we won these games. The games unfolded as they did for the exact reasons, the coaches thought they would. This was not only the right scheduling call, it was the ONLY scheduling call possible and it made them right and the haters wrong
Here's what I said at 1:30 AM on that bus ride out of Corvallis. Personally, I don't think I will be up there again in my lifetime. Never say never, but the reason for this home and away scheduling don't exist anymore. And we can do better going forward. But the coaches nailed it here and deserve the credit.Quote:
