Wow. Snell was pulled pretty quickly! Probably not a bad decision given the analytics but I can see why he'd be upset.
If the Rays go on to lose this that will be the thing they regret.

Hindsight is 20/20 but that was a turning point.
Careful with that. What if the Bears win big this year. Will you slam them?IdahoBear said:

Pulling a pitcher that is dominating is always a bad idea and it was again, which is why analytics is overrated in my viewdimitrig said:

It was just reported that Justin Turner tested positive yesterday and was asked not to play today, but he did anyway.
He tested positive again today and then was pulled from the game.
Irresponsible.

I believe you're referring to this:
Rosenthal's report was confusing, but I think you misunderstood what he was saying. what Rosenthal was saying about Turner is not that he refused to not play in the game, but that he refused to not come on the field after the game for the celebration.
He clears it up here:
He should have been pulled in the 2nd. And honestly the game should have been stopped.

This thread may eventually die because the Giants won't be good for a long time. Are there any Padres fans here?

And I think the guy they brought in had allowed an inherited runner to score in like his last 6 appearances (this one made 7). I'm sure he was great in the regular season, but at some point recent performance has to weigh in.82gradDLSdad said:Kaworu said:Pulling a pitcher that is dominating is always a bad idea and it was again, which is why analytics is overrated in my viewdimitrig said:

One of the announcers came on right after the change and read a stat saying how badly Betts did against lefties. And how well he hit guys like who the Rays brought in. Snell dominated Betts last night so the move at that time seemed wrong and not data driven.
LOL. Have you looked at how young most of the players are?GMP said:oski003 said:

Lolll, saving this for 2022 when the Dodgers are old and bad and we win the division.

Plus, the Dodgers farm system is still highly rated. And don't underestimate their ability to get international players.oski003 said:
Lux, Rios, Seager, Bellinger, and Will Smith are potential MVP type players 25 and under on the Dodgers.
That core group of young hitters is better than almost every other team in the majors. Your analysis is shoddy and only worthy of a giants fan.
At least you acknowledged that the Dodgers have incredible young pitching talent.

It was data driven in that Snell really struggles the 3rd time through the lineup. His ERA in the first 4 innings was microscopic (0.xx) but in the 5th and beyond it was high (7.xx).
We saw that happen in Game 2 when he tossed a no-hitter and struck out 9 through 4 and then got hit in the 5th.
The criticism of pulling Snell is almost universally agreed, but he also was pitching a no-hitter in game 2 until the fifth inning and then started to unravel.HighlandDutch said:
Congrats Dodger fans. I was hoping the championship drought would continue, but LA was clearly the best team all season.
That decision to pull Snell was like an Onion parody of analytics-driven baseball managing. The guy had faced 18 batters, striking out 9, and had thrown only 73 pitches. He gives up a base hit on a ball not hit very hard, and he gets yanked. Ridiculous.
