True. I get Brady going to ASU. They've got a good team. Will be strange if Irwin passes on Furd for them tho. Inferior everything....

he's not coming to cal. he's made comments about it not being where is heart is, stuff that was going on on campus when he was visiting is 1 of multiple reasons why (typical lame protest).

It has been told... Berkeley isn't for everyone and probably wasn't for them.

Though I'm sure Cal could be for them if we were 7-5 last year.

the other reason is obvious, coaching... Sounds like he is already gone.

He was put off by a student protest?

Can't we stop protests during recruit visits?

It could be... but he didn't like the Cal vibe from what is being said. Again Berkeley isn't for everyone. If our visit was good the record probably wouldn't have mattered.

we need to cut a few sports, and start offering schollie for cheerleading, like Oregon.

hot, schollie. hot, schollie. pretty cute, preferred walk-on.

Dump women's lacrosse and add those flag waving chicks like all those SEC teams have.

Cal cheer is now co-ed so might get tricky with title 9

I nominate you to stand in front of the women's lacrosse team, alone, and you propose that their sport be dropped. :p
They are athletic and devoted to their sport and each other.

Just curious, how many SEC chicks could get into Cal and, of those, how many would survive the first mid-terms?

:gobears: including women's lacrosse.

Forget the schollie for cheerleading. How about staffing shocky's "Yoga Girl". A strength and conditioning position to be sure.

Relax,if the dude wants to go to ASU that's his problem. Luke is the real deal and I believe one of the reasons he choose Berkeley is because of Haas.:gobears:

Also I believe that guy Kearns is pretty good.
At the risk of providing perspective, we really don't know how any of these QBs are going to turn out. Not landing Rosen or White should not really surprise or upset anyone who has been paying attention. Top players always express interest in Cal, but Cal lands very few, if any, of them because they have too many other good choices.

Some have expressed disgust that we "struck out on all the great QB recruits from Cali in this class." But what do you really expect?

If one is going to get upset, the more upsetting thing than White is that Hellinski chose WSU over Cal. Again it was probably a chance to play that was the factor there as Halliday is done after 2014 and Bruggerman is not what he was cranked up to be.

Browning going to Washington was another shocker. UW has not 1 or 2 or 3 but 4 D1 prospects on campus including returning part time starter Miles who has a lot of time left on his clock. I guess it was Petersen that did it there.

I agree with the other people on this board that suggested that we go after Travis Waller if we don't get White. I saw somewhere that he has a 3.8 gpa and I really like the fact he can run. Having a good running quarterback is such a luxury that if he has any interest in us I would take him in a heartbeat.

Brady has told so many people that he is coming to Arizona state that they are welcoming him on twitter just to see it get immediately deleted. On their (Cubs .......) fan fan forum titled "Brady White Our Next Commit?" they are talking as if it's been a done deal. That many people can't be wrong.

Rosen? No (UCLA and it was once thought we were leading for him)
Browning? No (F'uskies)
Hillsinki? No (wazzu. Really? Wazzu?!?!?!?)
Town? No (USC)
White? Unlikely

We didn't offer Hillinski and it is thot that if we did he would probably switch to us. He is very high on Cal and really wanted an offer. We did not lose him to WSU. I think there are a few other guys getting looks, but after a 1-11 season and having only a SO QB it would be tough to get a top flight QB. Next year we are in good standing with a highly rated QB and with Goff being a JR we look much better

See above... we went hard after Browning, White, and Rosen only. We didn't go after Town and didnt offer Hillinski

I have no insider info but why did Hilsinki pull trigger so early? If he is highly rated and interested in a Calnoffer. Town was a big flip for USC as didn't he commit to LSU or Bama like WAY early?

Anyway on to Waller (that'll be a dog fight) and the rest

There is always a chance the new coaching staff can try and poach one of these QBs the current staff whiffed on come December/January.

Kidding, kidding....

And Cal will face less competition from conference foes next year since pretty much every team from the Pac-12 will sign a highly rated quarterback this year. Stanford will probably sign one or two next year though...

Agree.
There's no cause for any concern if we don't get a QB this year. Next year will see another bunch of quality QBs on the table and we'll have a record much better than 1-11.

We're in decent (or better) shape at QB. The HS QBs seem unwilling to compete with Goff (& Luke) so they head elsewhere.
Not that long ago, $c had a very highly rated player leave because he couldn't get playing time so the future for these guys going to other schools is by no means certain. uDuh is loaded with QBs but hasn't found the guy yet.

Thanks for the corrections on Hillinski, including the spelling. I wonder if he didn't have the grades and that's why he didn't get an offer. Are you suggesting he could flip to us if we offer?

Also I agree with your basic point, which is also my basic point, that we shouldn't panic over White as we are in good shape at QB. I'm sure that if and when we need a QB we can recruit one.

really good point. Also, there will be pontification about his selecting/not selecting Cal, and a lot less said about which O-linemen are picking Cal...the latter is much more important this year

Painfully true.
One can only hope that plenty of offers are out there and that interest is getting generated.

I would say this equally true of the DL.

That is the feeling of many... Hillinski would probably flip if we offered and recruited him. I am hearing we have a few others we will offer first though. I think his grades are fine and it isn't that he isn't good. I think we just had White, Browning, and Rosen rated above everyone else. We were waiting on White who we thought we led for a long time. Now I think we will go to our next line which could include Hillinski.

I also agree that will so many of these top QBs going in this year to USC, UCLA, etc that it could only help next year for us. However if the recruits aren't starting at a young age like Goff then they forget and think they can beat them out. The best thing would be for these young QBs to start early in their college career, so like us now, they show no immediate playing time. Since Rosen will sit next year UCLA will have an open spot for a starting QB and will pull in a top QB with the premise that the best QB will start. Don't count USC, UCLA, etc out yet until a young QB is actually starting.

I'm sorry this is a loser mentality. This is the we can't compete with the other programs in recruiting so we will just take the leftovers. While across the bay they can get whomever they want?

Yeah we went 1-11 and so that's really hard to overcome. The staff has to target the "right guys" AND sell rebuilding/bright shiny new future. The staff ran hard at white and appears to (he hasn't commited yet) have lost a guy that claims to be academic minded to ASU. So either they can't sell rebuilding OR they are targeting the wrong guys. Anyway spilt milk. Onto Waller who will probably be an even tougher get.

And as for the comments about OL...that's another sore point. Nothing to date has made me feel super good about our ability to recruit that position group (unlike WR and RB which I feel very good about actually)

boo hoo. Furd isn't going to take one this season. so we'll have to get their leftovers next season. loser mentality indeed--especially in a hugely stacked QB class like this year, you just can't whiff.

also, elite QBs aren't intimidated by QB recruits taken by a school the year before.

you can insist all day long that Yenser's recruits were all underrated, but until they actually start producing, irrelevant. so far he seems to be one of our least effective recruiters, and he's missed on many of our higher choices. haven't seen anything to prove otherwise. this was a day 1 concern: giving the job to a guy who's never been a D1 OL coach.
