It's a win but lots of areas to critique. I'm in favor of replacing Baldwin because he hasn't shown sh*t.
It't not the play calling. The QB's can't hit the receivers consistently and Hudson has terrible hands dropped 2-3 key passes. It is hard to sustain a drive when the ball doesn't get to the receivers or the receivers can't hang on,

I think Garbers is the guy. I'm not usually one to think the QB is the problem, but I just don't see Bowers ever being really good.
Bowers would be fine if we had a true deep threat. Sadly, we don't have that, which means he becomes a liability much like Longshore was during his time at Cal.

I get a feeling that Garbers or McIllwan will be playing most of the 4th quarter.
The problem is, last year Bowers' pass accuracy beyond 10 yard had a sharp drop-off. He is the king of slants.
It had been reported from camp that Bowers was stronger and more accurate this year. But i don't see it.

Thinking more about this, it appears the conscious decision was to use this game to get solid looks at all 3qbs. The plan was likely to have consistency in personnel in order to do that. If that's the case, I respect that decision. Hard to argue with the fact that we didn't turn the ball over. You can't get too tricky on offense with plays and personnel while also shuffling 3 qbs. I'm actually pretty happy I got to see all 3 play.

Disagree. I can see that was the design if each of three QBs got their own complete drive. What happened instead was QB switch between downs (not even first downs). You don't get a solid looks at QBs this way.

Then why did Bowers, reportedly, get the vast majority of first team snaps all off season? It sure appears that Baldwin had seen enough. After all the 'Bowers has taken a big leap from last year' it sure looked like the same old Bowers. Nice, slightly below average D1 QB, he brings nothing special to the offense. Nothing. Baldwin acting a bit like a fan, "you've had enough time, we are trying someone else. Don't care that it is the first quarter of the first game"

Can someone explain why UNC got to re-kick the onside kick after THEY committed a penalty hahaha. Never seen that...

One would have to go look at the tape but I think the issue is the read option and Bowers lack of speed on getting to the outside edge. Look at the RDE (a key read) and what he is doing. If he crashes down Bowers is supposed to keep and get outside leverage. If he stays home/contains then hand off. If you can't run that it will be hard on Laird - since it puts too many guys in the gaps. THus Baldwin wants to look at the other guys in specific situations rather than let them have an entire drive. It DID make for choppy offense and a decided inability to drive the rock.

It's a penalty. If Cal declines the penalty, then the result of the play stands. Pretty sure we wouldn't have wanted that.

It's one game. We'll be fine. D looked great overall. O stalled in 4th, putting greater pressure on the D, and even then the secondary coverage was very good. Bynum right there on that last TD. Keeping the faith on O. If OL steps it up we'll see better results there.

If you do think about it from the other teams' POVs, the weirdness of the offense does make it very difficult to prepare for us. Are they supposed to prepare special packages against 3 different QBs? What if we throw a different kind of running play than left end run around? Of course if that really is it we're screwed but Baldwin has shown week by week adjustments.
