Not sure if Hudson or Bowers playing worse 8 min into Q2. Bowers has happy feet stepping into the rush. Was hoping for more, but still early.

Same problem last year. Lack of speed at WR means that players can cover us 1 on 1 and stack the box. No seperation. Not really seeing this a Bowers issue as much as lack of WR.

Fair take MB but are we going to exchange prolific O/weak D for prolific D/weak O? Seems like it's ok to expect proficiency in both aspects.
Bowers seems to be having trouble with the speed of play or something. THis isn't the end of season Bowers from last year. He's more like the one at the beginning of last season.OdontoBear66 said:

We thought our pass defense would be a strength this season with all the returning DBs, including several who missed all or part of last season due to injury, and we are seeing exactly what we expected.GoBears89 said:

The run defense isn't all that bad either. The linebackers appear to trust the DBs to cover and are much more aggressive than I remember from the Tedford and Dykes defenses.
Bowers isn't a good QB. He's not going to change. Sadly the other guys don't look much better. And right now our best receivers seem to be on defense.

We didn't see enough of McIlwan for me to really make a call on how good or bad he is.

This offense gets *rolling* when we're hitting passes. Laird can't blow through a stacked line but give him an inch of space and he'll shoot gaps -- which we get when linebackers are worried about those intermediate routes.
What would Jalen Ramsey's take be on Elliot? Oh boi
The LBs are staying near the middle of the field. We should have a lot of space if we went wide more often. Perhaps give one of the other RBs a chance to run some sweeps or run a jet sweep. The LBs are watching for Laird to run up the middle.tigertim said:

It is, but North Carolina's DL was perhaps one of the top 3 in the nation based on its returning players. They have an extremely good DL, I'd say based on all I read only UW and USC might have their equal out of the teams we will face this season.CalGrad95 said:

This playcalling is schizophrenic as it was last year. Dumb downfield calls when all we do is run run run. Why not mix it up with flats, slants, seams, outs - mid range game???

the problem is not speed. the problem is qb play
So far we are seeing a battle between a bad offense and super terrible putrid turnover prone offense. Go Bears!
