Bowers is hot garbage

Why Wharton still allowed to return punts? He pitter-patting weakling when it come to punt returns. Need to run forward.

Bowers is not the long-term answer.

Bowers trying too hard. Not that good. Give Garbers a chance in the second half.

All of our points off of turnovers? I can't believe how awful this North Carolina offense is. Their qb is 5-14 for 13 yards and 3 picks.

Our WR core on the outside is going to be worse next year unless we get some elite Juco and transfer. We lose Wharton, Way and potentially Singleton

Even Robertson and Stovall have stayed it wouldn't make much difference. Agree that the biggest problems are QB play and play calling.

Bowers has definitely been a huge disappointment so far this game. He has shown terrible decision-making and appears unable to identify receivers right now. NC is playing man defense, someone should be open.

Of course, the play calling hasn't helped so far.

Who would have taken 17-0 at half.....count me in. Defense looks great and I see no reason why it will not be the strength of our team this year. Linebackers and secondary are VERY good and DL is acceptable. QB play has been very poor but I will take our QB play over NC's....3 picks....atrocious. Glass is half full guys....defense wins championships.....not saying this year but Wilcox has us on the right path.

CalGang - the sample size is super small - hold judgement until end of the game for QB play. That said Garbers has looked best so far

It seems like just last week we were all jazzed about seeing Bowers make tosses to our beefed up (lol) tight ends. Also, are we going to see any other rbs?

Would like to see our young RBs get a few carries to spell Laird a bit. There were a few speedsters, no?

I wish they would let Garbers start the second half.

Grades for 1st half:

Offense C- at best (no turnovers otherwise worse)
Defense A+ (3 turnovers and one first down)
Special teams - A (no mistakes - punts ok not great)

I hate to say this, but I was never a huge fan of Bowers. I just have never felt he had the intangibles required to be a top level QB. He's not bad, and doesn't make many egregious mistakes, but he has never convinced me that he can put the game on his back and will the team to victory.

That was part of what made the offense so bad in the middle of last season. Bowers just wasn't able to work with the tools the team was giving him, and defenses figured that out. NC is almost daring him to show that he has changed from that mid-season 2017 version.

Well do we have the QB recruit here today (I think Brasch). He must love seeing the youth on this team with which he could play in the future.

Very poor decisions in the pocket. Easy target for DLine & LBs from UNC. But mods say he is totally improved. Guess we need to give it more time to judge. Easy to do when we are winning.

Well unlike past years, if qb1 ends of sucking, we have legit options with qb2 and qb3

I think our D is good. Even a crappy O can make more than 1 first down in 8 possessions or was it 9?

Who is our backup punt returner? Is he strong?

I'm wondering why everyone thought the OL was going to be a strength. The OL last season was pretty bad. So what if they had a nice camp, that means nothing. How many teams have great camps and lousy season? Pretty much all the bad teams. Everyone looks great in camp.

I don't need to see Garbers or McIlwain again this year. Bowers is clearly the best qb right now. I hope the coaches let him play and try to get into a rhythm.

1. D is 100% legit. We held a D1 team to <1.5 *yards per play* in the first half, with three picks. That's nuts.
2. Bowers has had ~20 pass attempts (counting sacks). Let's give him more than a half before burying him.
3. Tight ends not helping -- several drops.
