This hire should not have been hard. Once again, the AD overthought this. Fox stinks. He had all those years at Georgia and only went to the NCAA's twice. *** is Knowlton doing? His success at Nevada was when it was in the WAC, which was bombed out during his tenure since most of the good programs left to form the MWC.

Heck, I'd take Eric Musselman over this dude everyday of the week. He was at least able to get to a Sweet 16 at Nevada, unlike Fox.

I could spend hours dissecting his record but really what is the point.

I guess I'm hoping that Goodman is as accurate as he was about Wykings retention. If FOX turns out to be the case, I'd love to find out if Knowlton chose him above others or if others turned down Cal and Fox was last man standing.

if this is true, as others have said, i'm done with cal hoops. too much to do with my life to worry about an underwhelming team with almost no upside. what a stupid, stupid, decision. will just hope for a decent football season, i guess.

How does a retread like Fox even get consideration when there are so many other coaches out there deserving of shot? He had his shot at the big time and failed. Logic dictates that he will likely fail again.

It's wild that donors here have no pull. The university will just keep feeding you s*it.

This type of decision may end up as my master's thesis for my Sports Analytics and Sports Management Program.

Why AD's use search firms is beyond me. Sure studies show that collaborative work is more productive, but when the research doesn't understand the principles of what makes a great hire the collaborative process is rendered useless.

I'll be done in 2020 so if you folks want an AD with vision, and actual intuition how to make these choices then I'll be ready to push Cal forward.

If you're going to hire a multi-time loser like Fox, who will inevitably fail and have to be bought out in a couple of years, then there was no point in firing Wyking Jones.

Regardless of how this turns out, it's amazing to me that Fox gets another chance at a high major. It's ridiculous, frankly.

You have to figure that the entire class is gone. We will scrape the bottom of barrel for a few guys....but without any ties to the West Coast and with being on the beach for the year is starting way behind.

F'ing news flash to f'ing Jim Knowleton. Look at his Georgia teams. Slow plooding basketball with absolutely ZERO appeal to kids that want to show off to the NBA their skills.

Seriously, go look at the average points put up by the bulldogs in his last 3 years. Boring basketball in the 50-60 point range. Oh won't THAT appeal to kids we are trying to convince to come here rather than UCLA, USC, Zona, Oregon, etc.

Knowlton is going to spend millions of dollars just to trade one dumpster fire for another.

Head scratcher for sure. Of all the names mentioned around here, his was the least appealing to me. Knowlton must have a sense that this will not be perceived well by the Cal base as well as nationally, right?

I've said many times before that some of the best hires are ones that were "meh" hires that looked bad on paper, so on that basis (and that basis alone), I'll get behind it and support my school. But jeez.

Nice to see us ignore Monty again? Did DeCuire and Turner turn us down, or did we choose Fox over them? I don't get it

If memory serves me right, when Bruce Snyder was hired as our Head Football Coach, the reaction was generally "meh", given that he was coming form an Assistant Coach slot with the Rams (he was John Robinson's RB coach). He did have HC experience at Utah, but I don't believe he was ever the favorite to replace Kapp, I think Jim Sweeney was the top choice for many folks.

Point being, Snyder became one of our best coaches, one of his best assets was putting together a very effective coaching staff, featuring Steve Marriuci, among others.

If Fox can put together a terrific staff, which I hope includes David Grace, he will get off to a good start.

Whatever happens, GO BEARS, I will always support our athletes and coaches!
