That will buy him a few years. His defenders will point to how few players he "inherited." His first year with "his" recruits will be year 2. Then he needs those guys to be seniors in year 5, but prior to that he will need an extension for "recruiting purposes."

No it would not be better to keep jones. Most of these guys did not play good defense. Some of it was effort. Glad i dont have to watch Dyson anymore . Agree with Yogi.

Walk ons might play harder. Lets hope Bradley stays. This could now affect recruits.

How do you say you are leaving but might not? Personally I hope they leave. They have no allegiance to Cal nor do they value the education. Its all me me me. How about playing harder then we would not be in this mess

I'm wondering how Fox approached the team as this many defections following a coaching change seems unusually high. I wouldn't have expected this with DeCuire.

With the way Connor came on toward the end of the season, I imagine he could go just about anywhere he wanted. That doesn't mean it would be the right decision for him. At another school he could still end up getting stuck on the bench.

Harris-Dyson's transfer was expected before Fox was named. The one that is a surprise is Vanover.

While not a good look for the new regime, I actually think it' says more about the current status of college basketball and guys having a lot of options than it says specifically about Fox. Look at Oregon. They just had most of their entire starting lineup (Pritchard, Bol, Wooten, King) declare early for the draft. A few may return (even after hiring an agent) because a) they can and b) the draft isn't a better option. But the same is true about the portal. There's no downside of putting yourself into the portal and hearing from other coaches about what your other options are.

Maybe the entire team will threaten to transfer and Knowlton will be forced to fire Fox for cause.

The semester ends Friday May 17.

My own view is if Coach Fox communicates as well in private as he does in public then I understand players wanting to explore their options.

We should hire a casting agency to field us a team of loveable losers for next year. Major League it.

Does anyone know if Fox has actually signed his contract? And if so, does it include incentives for fielding a team with at least 5 players?

Bleak view - we are going to suck for a LONG time
Optimistic view - he took a look at their games and the tape and frankly didn't believe they were long term competitive in the Pac-12 and believed he could recruit better. Not sure I would agree about Connor but even there I saw a kid who was going to get into foul trouble often because of his build (or lack thereof) and his SLOOOOWWWW jump.

There's a Premium thread titled "Setting The Year Zero Mark Fox Expectations". Maybe they should have omitted the word "Year".

Hasn't DeCuire been hired by another program in the last 6 years? Oh wait...people need to leave DeCuire (and Turner for that matter) out of the discussion. No one else has hired them in 6 or 9 years, respectively, maybe there's a reason?

It may be they were indeed interested in their Cal educations but their aversion to playing for the new coaches prevailed. It would be ironic if some of them end up at UC Irvine.
