I think you brain short-circuited and you are resorting to repeating the same thing over and over again and acting like this is some popularity contest with who gets invited to dinner parties.

You get invited to so many dinner parties that you spend your days and nights here. Got it.

Don't you have some dinner party to go to in your porsche?

Funny.

You should list Beainsider as your address since you live here.

OK. Cool story, dinner parties, posting 4 times a day every day, bro, pressuring others to subscribe when he only subscribed after being mocked, makes fun of those who did not go to UC Berkeley then says education is not important when others with better pedigree are presented, brags about his porsche, and name drops MAGA reporters after saying that people here are financially illiterate.

And I should take advice from you? Clearly you are a winner.

Back to DeSantis: Yes, he is probably smart and he might be competent, I don't know. But the way he's constantly playing the "culture wars" card, he comes off to me as mean and calculating. Sure, being calculating is part of politics, but I'd like to see a lot more "competent" and less bs. Show me your vision for all Americans, beyond "Florida is where woke goes to die!" Hard no on DeSantis. What a phony. I would prefer Gavin Newsom in a heartbeat.
You don't think Gavin Newsom is phony? You don't think he says things to play to his base?
Newsom does seem a bit phony. But he doesn't seem vindictive or mean. Everything DeSantis says or does seems like he's just trying to get back at somebody.

I think Newsom does come out as mean but in a frat boy mean type of way. Not sure whether he is vindictive or not, but I suppose you cannot rise as he has politically in California without being vindictive.

DeSantis does not seem as cool as Newsom, which may be a bit of his appeal as well.

I suspect DeSantis has a better chance of eventually being president than Newsom but who knows. Political winds change pretty quickly.

Also, you have to remember that DeSantis was a prosecutor, including cases involving child abuse. He has that prosecutor, bulldog demeaner, especially with him having served in the military.

He needs to cut back on the social warfare if he wants to win a national election, but he has been doing fine so far.

He is/does, for sure. And his French Laundry escapade... I looked up Limousine Liberal and there was his picture. And that's sort of why I'm comparing the two: Newsom at least talks of creating an equal playing field, whereas DeSantis is riling up ignorant white people who are desperately afraid that their piece of the pie might not continue to grow. When it comes to phonies, I'll go with the former, any day.

I don't know whether he appeals only to ignorant white people. I suspect he has strong support from various demographics in Florida, including the Hispanic community.

I think some would argue that DeSantis is about creating an equal playing field as well instead of catering to every special interest group that threatens to cancel unless catered to.

By the way, I completely respect that you prefer Newsom. I don't object too much to Newsom. He would be better than Biden at this point in their respective careers. And I remember when he ran for mayor in San Francisco, the dig against him was that he was too conservative relative to those competing with him. I am glad he won, and he started the trend to allow gay marriages.

But I prefer DeSantis.

I was just making a comment about the bickering back and forth between you and Diablo Wags. In the 36 hours before the 2020 election, BearFarce2 made about 500-600 posts to Off Topic. No exaggeration. He didn't appear to even take more than an hour or two off to sleep. Both of you were over 40 posts today and much of it was of the Yes you are, No I'm not variety. I understand both of your mutual annoyance but enough was enough.

By the way thanks for calling me at least somewhat rational. I appreciate it.

I see Newsom as more smarmy than mean. Like he's going to lecture you about what you're doing wrong, when these are standards he can't even live up to himself.

But does he tend to attack people who don't do what he wants? I mean, besides other politicians who oppose his agenda? I don't think so. DeSantis does that. He went at some high school kids just because they were wearing masks while standing behind him, for crissakes.

That was definitely a political move. When he is standing against what he viewed as oppressive nature of the COVID mandates (mask wearing is pretty basic - did not agree with him there), it would have been a bad photo op for him to stand in front of kids wearing masks. Petty but I get the political annoyance.

Never said he was perfect, but, in light of economic policies, his prior positions as a member of congress, his willingness to serve in the military despite having graduated from Harvard Law School with honors, etc., I would prefer him by far over Trump and I prefer his policies over those of Biden and the progressive left. So, holistically, I prefer him over Trump, Biden and most likely Newsom. Again, not perfect but someone I can support.

This election is over but for some counting and Georgia's run-off.

The underlying fundamentals were so skewed toward Rs that I am suspicious there's something more fundamental at play rather than anti-trump, abortion, etc. It has to be something like Ds on the ground get out the vote game developed during the Covid shutdown were leveraged to great effect. It's the most logical explanation to me, but we will learn in time.

In the meantime, Ds get some time to rightly gloat and Rs still have a solid path to quietly capturing the House and Senate. TBD.

How, in your opinion, were "the underlying fundamentals... so skewed toward Rs"?

For me, the one thing that comes to mind is the way that the midterms have tended to go against the President that has just taken office two years prior, which, in this case, happens to be away from the Dems, toward the Republicans.
Biden massively underwater. 75-80% of people saying country is going in the wrong direction. Very high number of people saying inflation was their major issue. Historical trend of party in power losing seats. This will be 1st ever party in power with underwater president has over 195 seats.

If that's true that "75-80% of people saying country is going in the wrong direction", how, specifically, did they pin that on ol' Joe?

It's like inflation, how, specifically, is that Biden's fault? Sure, the Republicans tried to pin it on him, but I didn't sense that they had their own plan to counter it, did they? Do they?

Everybody hates inflation and it's an aspect of the economy that everybody sees, firsthand, all the time. But I feel like, in general, the economy's in decent shape.

Americans (and, heck, people everywhere) like to gripe and blame things on the politicians in office, but when push came to shove and people looked at alternatives, they were like, "Biden? He's doing okay."

We've gone over this before, didn't you pay attention?

1. Added over $4 Trillion+ in spending, on top of orevious stimulus spending.
2. Green NewcDeal / Build Back Better / WEF - restricting new oil and NG leases, shutting down new pipelines, and negative market news.
3. Signed Paris Accord
4. 2 & 3 lead to big jumps in energy prices, which lead to big jumps in food prices
5. Proxy war w Ukraine
6. Could have fired the Fed chair
7. Extended Lockdowns, which leads to a host of problems, including more $$$ chasing fewer goods

If you posted it, no, I didn't pay attention.

You made me laugh when you connected the dots between a guy possibly being funded or aided by someone else to an effort by "George Soros".
Like, really? What do you know about either Mejia or Soros and on what grounds other than wild speculation do you have in connecting the two?
Any answer is just more wild speculation, but hey, the more it's said the more real it becomes, so go for it!!
Keep reading the thread. I said later that it was speculative of me to say "Soros". My instincts told me he had to have real money on hand and that instinct was right. It turns out it came at least in part from the Govt matching program. I have not seen a source that lists his total campaign funds or some other things that would help fill in the blanks.

I jumped to Soros because Mejia is Green Party and his positions read like their are from the Soros playbook.
