Once she won she held it for 10 years. I won't be surprised if a moderate D holds it for a long while again.

I really couldn't disagree more.

McConnell already proved it is a substantive problem with his allocation of money which affirmatively undermined R's chances of keeping the Senate (think about that for a second. McConnell's entire career has been about obtaining and retaining power. He fully abandoned that to undermine Trump people in at least 3 winnable states. That says A LOT.).

Trump is many things but he's never one to back down for a fight.

This isn't going away anytime soon.

The area is full of white redneck hunters, beer swilling blue collar mill workers, homophobes, and drug addicts. It has more in common with the red parts of Michigan than with Portland and for the same reason which is loss of union jobs. As Portlanders move across the river it may change but only in the areas right near Portland. The district continues at least another 60 miles north and those area are why this Kent bozo even made it to the primary.

A family member has worked in the OR for many years and has a specialty of working in this space. For maybe 2 decades their hospital was maybe the only one on the west coast that performed these operations. People flew in from all over the country to get them. (I could be misremembering this but I think a certain very famous employer with well known facilities in Orlando and Orange County, CA used to pay for these because they weren't covered by their insurance). I don't remember a single instance of a minor having the surgery, ever. Maybe they were but I just didn't hear about it. But my sense was it was always adults and it only happened after substantial counseling and what appeared to me to be a fairly prolonged protocol. Some patients were rejected for mental health type reasons.

OK, that's more than I would have thought. I wouldn't be against requiring someone to be over 18 before having gender change surgery. While i wouldn't begin to believe I understand what they are going through, once the surgery is done, there's no going back. There were several things I thought were great ideas at 14 or 15 that I had a 180 degree change of heart about by the time I was 18 or 19.

Yet the evidence appears to show a massive new effort by Democrats at ballot harvesting going back at least to 2017. In brief, some argue:

- California was the test site w ballot harvesting in 2018
- that year the GOP lost reliably Republican seats in Orange County
- California enacted motor voter registration, and some assert it even includes illegal immigrants
- Eric Holder helped w legal issues linking DMV data to the SOS database

- while in many places ballot harvesting is illegal, ballot assistance isn't!; supporters of said practice are now sometimes scrubbing their tracks in, for example, Arizona.

We will learn more in the coming weeks but I suspect the 2020 adjustments to districts, especially in D states, and Ds ability to get votes out (ie the difference between registered and likely voters is being eliminated via prolonged voting periods and vote harvesting type activities) is going to be more and more of the story.
