I think the data that you'd need is "big cities with Republican mayors".
Can you name them?

Hollywood really shaped my values around war. After Vietnam, there were many anti-war films that showed the madness of it all:
Deer Hunter
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
In these films, not only are lives needlessly wasted, but characters go crazy in the process. There is no heroic John Wayne saving the day, there are just a bunch of humans in a mad mad mad situation running around with guns.

I wonder why I can't think up similar Hollywood films put together to combat the gun violence phenomenon in this country. Surely there are scripts out there that could have a similar cultural mind shift, no?

I know how to disarm someone trying to attack me or someone else with a knife.

I can't stop a semi-automatic rifle.

I am not looking to get into a shoot out with an outlaw. But I would like to make it more difficult for guns to be purchased even if criminals may still procure them illegally. Allowing me to carry a gun I won't carry is not going to make me feel safer when criminals and mentally disturbed people are now having an even easier time getting them.

At least for me, I will always vote for more gun control. My personal views. I understand why gun enthusiasts will want to be able to get guns. But I don't understand why people balk at having to get insurance to possess the most dangerous equipment when we require them for less dangerous equipment. I don't believe people actually believe cars are less essential than guns, but people are still required to carry liability insurance. If people want to have guns, be a big boy and take accountability.
