> Yeah, maybe. But it also seems to me that the constant assault on Gaza is also not working and if anything is only backfiring by turning public opinion against Israel amongst those who should be its allies.

This man understands the situation. There will be no peace until all hostages are released.

More hostages were freed during the last ceasefire than at any other time in this war.

And?

So maybe the constant military offensive isn't the best way to get the hostages back.

They negotiate cease fires and hostage exchanges. They have been unsuccessful in recent negotiations. Perhaps, Hamas is reluctant to part with the rest of their hostages? This could be for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, maybe. But it also seems to me that the constant assault on Gaza is also not working and if anything is only backfiring by turning public opinion against Israel amongst those who should be its allies.

That is Hamas' strategy. Use civilian shields and make Israel look like murderers.

That strategy only works if Israel actually deliberately murders tens of thousands of women and children.

In that case, the carnage is being driven by Russia.

That's debatable, regardless of the circumstances that led to that war, Russia offered a reasonable peace deal 2 years ago offering to withdraw to Ukraine's pre-war borders in exchange for Ukrainian neutrality, a deal which would have spared the lives of 500,000 Ukrainian soldiers. This is confirmed by at least two high-ranking Ukrainian sources that were part of the process.

This March 2022 Istanbul deal was scuttled by NATO with the personal intervention of Boris Johnson, and Ukrainian radicals further solidified their position by executing one of the members of their negotiation team.

In the case of Israel though, the carnage is being completely enabled by the US and financed by our tax dollars.

Good luck with that. The IDF has bailed on that idea after losing ~500 soldiers.

Now they're planning to attack Southern Lebanon.

They're going to get their asses kicked, and then cry to the U.S. for help.

Good to support the nation of Israel. Bad to support their current government and its ill-advised and ultimately counter-productive response to October 7. All those people really need to agree on some sort of two-state solution and quit fighting all the time.

I actually think the Biden Administration has handled this pretty well. What people don't realize (and was not advertised) is that Biden was trying to get Netanyahu to adopt a more measured response, starting way back in early-mid October. (Um, at least I think he was... I hope he was... pretty sure.) But Israel's been too stubborn. They may end up regretting their response.

If Israel were Russia under Putin, the tankies would show up to tell you how wrong you are.

They would tell you that Israel has a little thing called escalatory dominance and that Hamas has no hope to win this war and should have surrendered already. In fact, they would say, Hamas would have surrendered if not for Boris Johnson or Joe Biden. They would also tell you that Palestine doesn't exist and in fact never existed and they would cite some old maps.

Next they would say that we should stop giving any humanitarian aid to Palestine because Hamas ends up stealing it and selling it off so that Hamas's leaders can live like billionaires (because they are billionaires) in Qatar.

They would also remind you that Hamas is an anti-semitic organization whose goal is to destroy Israel and genocide the Jewish people and has been from the very beginning. And obviously they would note that this war was started by Hamas and Palestine, and that Israel is acting in actual self-defense. Israel still faces rockets fired from enemies including Palestine virtually every day, as it had been even before this war started.

They would then mention that Hamas makes up casualty numbers and is running an elaborate propaganda campaign.

Finally, they would tell you that Israel isn't responsible for any civilian deaths because Hamas doesn't wear uniforms or identify itself as military in any way and uses women and children as human shields.

Not all of the things above would be true, but they would all be more true than the analogous arguments the tankies continue to disingenuously make about the Ukraine war. The reason they are not here defending Israel the way they do Russia is because Putin supports Iran and Iran supports the destruction of Israel and the genocide of the Jewish people.

Both the Ukraine and Hamas wars are humanitarian disasters with far too many victims. They have a lot in common, unfortunately. What they don't have in common is with respect to which party can unilaterally end the war. Israel could stop defending itself against Hamas and Palestine but it would not end the military hostilities because Hamas would still exist and would still continue to attack Israel. If Hamas surrendered, the war would be over. Similarly, if Putin withdrew his troops, the war would literally be over the same day. Ukraine does not pose a threat to Russia, never attacked Russia before the war and would not attack Russia after the war ended.

Yet, because Putin's propaganda is so effective, you have his useful idiots arguing the exact opposite of what common sense would say.

I agree 100% on this, GJ.

Biden & the Dems want it both ways.

They want all the $$$ from AIPAC and DMFI, and of course they'll vote for anything that the genocidal monsters want. HOWEVER, they realize that a clear majority of Americans, and an overwhelming majority of Democrats, are horrified by Israel's genocide & ethnic cleansing, and want an immediate cease-fire. They've already lost Michigan, a critical swing state, and they're behind Trump in all other swing states.

They keep repeating B.S. about how "upset" Biden is with Netanyahu and Israel's cruelty. All this talk is just that -- all talk, no action. Anyone with half a brain knows that Biden & the Dems WILL NOT cut off Israel's weapons shipments, no matter what.

IF Biden stopped the shipments, AIPAC would be brutal -- they would cut funding from the "Democratic" Party, and throw their full support behind Trump and the GOP, who are even more aligned with Israel's apartheid and oppression of Palestinians.

So Biden will lose. He's already lost Dem voters, and if he stops weapons shipments and calls for a cease-fire, the Party's biggest donors & attack dogs, AIPAC and DMFI and their $100 Million campaign fund, turn against them, probably causing big losses all the way down the ticket.

In a very encouraging development, Progressive groups have banded together to bring attention to, and fight, the Israel Lobby's disproportionate influence on U.S. politics.

Progressives Band Together To Fight BACK Against AIPAC

As horrible as MSNBC usually is, this segment is a massive departure, and a very encouraging move by MSNBC.

Ok you're completely delusional. Israel is ensuring its annihilation by pounding away at Hamas terrorists? That's exactly what will help Israel gain security by removing terrorist infrastructure in schools, mosques, etc. And yes, if Israel does withdraw then Hamas will reemerge because that's who their populace supports hence the need to create a solid buffer zone and hopefully regain control of the border with Egypt. Good humor about out of shape Israeli reservists. I'd venture that there aren't many armies in the world that would want to go head to head with the out of shape IDF.
Israel isn't "pounding away at Hamas terrorists."

They know where the Hamas terrorists are. They're in the tunnels -- which survived the bomb blasts that destroyed all the buildings and infrastructure above ground.

Israel destroyed Gaza because they wanted to kill a large number of Palestinians, and they wanted to starve out the rest. Hamas wasn't the reason for Israel's ethnic cleansing -- they're the excuse.

When Israel wanted to attack Hamas, they went into the tunnels to attack them -- and they lost about 500 IDF reservists. Then they stopped. They aren't going to "destroy Hamas".
