^ Lawfare! Dig a little deeper and you are likely to uncover George Soros, right?
S&P 500 down ANOTHER 200 POINTS.
Another $2.5 TRILLION WIPED OUT FROM America!
TRUMP DID THIS.
MAGA FOR MORONS!
Yeah but, in a few years, there will be some new factories opening up in the Rust Belt! Of course, even with the tariffs, it will be hard to compete with stuff manufactured in developing countries, so the jobs will be paying minimum wage.
Who wants to work for minimum wage in this country? Immigrants.
Oops...
Manufacturing jobs peaked in 1979 at 19.8 million.
These idiots are still living in the 70's.
Like Archie Bunker.
100%. Jobs that can be done just as well by people in developing countries for a small fraction of US minimum wage, it's just ignorant to think we can get, or even want those jobs back. Exceptions might be industries we need to keep alive here for national security reasons. And even then, on a limited scale that can be ramped up.
Otherwise, being on top of the proverbial food chain, we need to keep developing the next good jobs, not the last ones.
Building the next gen manufacturing is the next good jobs. I wish you guys would get this. Not only were we doing this in Vietnam, India, Cambodia, China...but we were fine selling our own people out by doing it. Your country has to make things. If you don't, you're setting yourself up for a calamity. I mean covid was a mild crisis but it showed you the problems with not being able to make your own pharmaceuticals.
Capability to manufacture pharmaceuticals would be covered in my "national security" provision, above.
We need to be able to make things that can't be made just as well, oversees, for a fraction of the cost. As "they" become able to manufacture those things, we need to be coming up with other new things, constantly adapting.
Globalization, to a large extent, is here to stay. Closing off our borders to trade (and immigration), we would gradually become a backwater country.
