Canada is in bad shape and they can't force / embarass President Trump to make a bad deal. USMCA ended NAFTA, and now POTUS is ending USMCA in favor of bilaterals. Canada played games, so POTUS added an additional 10% to tariffs. USMCA also only covers 60% of trade between the two, something POTUS doesn't prefer. He wants the whole banana settled, but USMCA has to end first.

Canada's days as an assembler of Chinese-built components intended to skirt US tariffs has likely ended. President Trump currently signing deals in Asia / ASEAN network, reducing China's influence, before meeting Xi. I've read we're also sourcing [not rare] rare earth materials from Australia and elsewhere. It appears well coordinated.

To wit, U.S. Ambassador to Canada just Informrd Govt and business keaders no current trade deals ate possible. Hoekstra has previously expressed his distaste for what he's called "anti-American" sentiment in Canada.

Some claim China / CCP are recognizing President Trump's trade success and his evolving gameplan.
