Jasir Fontenot, a straight A student from San Diego High is only a FRESHMAN.

His Dad is his coach and if he got a "B" he'd probably kick his son off the track team.
His older Sister Anisa owns the Nation's Top Time in the 100m hurdles at 13.16

Running 14.3 in the Boys 110m hurdles is blazing.
Running 13.3 is out of this freaking world!

It's 300 m. low hurdles, right?

Does the DLS guy play football? Just for reference, I think Jahvid Best won with a 10.31 and it was one of the top five times ever recorded at the California state Meet.

Thanks Diablo for doing this thread!

My bad Tom.
Yes, 300m hurdles.

And yes, I was at the 2007 State Meet held at Sac City College when Jahvid ran that 10.31
+2.4 meters per second so it was wind-aided.

Later in the day, after Long Beach Poly's Bryshon Nellum had won the 400m in a blazing 45.54, he and Jahvid Best went head-to-head in the Boys 200m

Nellum went to USC and had some injuries.

Just as he began to get his legs back and set some blistering times, he was shot during a drive-by around 1:45 am on Halloween in 2008 while attending a Halloween Party with some friends from the football team near campus.

When I worked at the Pac-10's hosted by Cal in 2010, I grabbed his sweats for him and his track bag after he had just competed in the 400m. He was sitting on a training table under a tent and you could see the scars from the bullets in his thigh. He was so polite and appreciative. He graduated from SC in 2012 and went on to graduate school.

"The doctors couldn't promise anything," Nellum said. "They basically told me, 'You'll be able to walk again but we don't think you'll ever have the world-class speed you had before.' That was motivation for me. Once I knew I was going to be able to walk, I told myself I was going to do whatever it takes to get back to a high level."

It took 44 months, three surgeries and countless frustration-filled days, but Nellum fulfilled that vow with a flourish in June. He earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team with a stunning third-place finish in the finals of the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic trials, a Hollywood-esque climax to his first injury-free season since the shooting.

Bryson won a Gold Medal at the World Championships in 2015 in Beijing on the 4x400m Relay and also a Silver in 2012 in London.

I still get chills whenever I watch this.
Such an epic race!

Tom, you need to clean out your ears.
The legendary announcer that is Doug Speck clearly said Lincoln of Stockton.

Doug Speck passed away in March of 2010 from brain cancer due to melanoma and knew more about high school track and field on the fingernail of his pinky than anyone I know. In 1968, he joined Doug Smith in the creation of the Arcadia Invite, perhaps the most prestigious invitational on the West Coast, if not the country.

In the infancy of the internet, he joined Rich Gonzalez in starting a website providing the most in depth coverage of high school track and field athletes in California called Dystatcal.

Doug Speck was also the PA announcer at the Sunkist Invitational, the National Scholastic Indoor Championships, the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships, and of course the CIF State Championships.

He was also on the advisory committees for the State Championships in both track and field and cross country.

Yes, I was watching the Livestream and the guy that was doing the broadcast said that someone had opened up a fire extinguisher on the infield. The camera didn't actually show it, but you could see some white "smoke" coming across the live video near the finish line.

Turns out that the winner of the Girls 400m, Clara Adams of North Salinas got a bit too excited and she set off a fire extinguisher that her Dad had handed her from the stands.

To celebrate her victory, she stepped off the track and sprayed her track spikes with the extinguisher.

CIF officials not only took her 1st place away for unsportsmanlike celebration, but they barred her from running in the 200m later in the meet.

As some of you track fans may recall, Maurice Greene did the same thing (but in the middle of the track) after winning a 100m race. He threw off his shoes and his coach ran over to spray them with a fire extinguisher.

The father of Adams claims that his daughter wasn't disrespecting anyone given that the incident happened "off the track" and "not in front of her opponents".

"I have video of it," said David Adams.

"She was on the other side of the wall, I told her to step off the track. She did not spray her shoes on the track. We have protested the decision. I fell it was racially motivated/."

CIF officials (the white ones) can be some of the most "brain-dead" people.
(see photo below)

"We're not letting you on the podium" Adams said.

Adams ran 53.24 in the 400m in the Finals.
She owned the fastest time in the State coming into the Championships at 53.23

She's only a SOPHOMORE.

I can't imagine what she's feeling today, let alone how she will be feeling every day of her life that she steps foot on the track until she winds up at STATE again a year from now.

"When I heard, cause it happened, and then people just started calling me 'This girl who just ran the 400 did your celebration' I was like huh? What?" Greene told the outlet.

The sprinter who took home the gold for the US in the 100m and 4 100m relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics said he feels CIF officials should reconsider their decision.

"If it was away from everyone and not interfering with anyone, I would say reinstate her," the Olympian said.
