The only positive thing I have to say about O North is that he was an extremely brave Marine in combat in Vietnam. You gotta respect that. He passed an ultimate test of manhood.

Until the mind state/ political system changes we will see more of the same.

Is anyone surprised? What are "you" going to do to make sure this doesn't happen at your child's school(district)?

He rang the doorbell on our house one time.
After he got busted, he was required to do some sort of penance work, and as such a meeting was arranged between he and my stepdad and some other guy.
I was about 21?
I answered the door and he ever so politely greeted me and I led him to the downstairs office.
Bethesda.
Looked exactly like on TV. He looks older now.
I don't know whatever happened after the meeting. Nothing came of it with my stepdad.

Who is this idiot on CNN saying we need to retrofit 8000 campuses in TX so that there are no access points for deranged gunmen to enter?

Lt gov Dan Patrick

We will soon live in a lock down state.
My liberties of movement will be taken away.
So that I can have the right to owning a gun I will never use.

This crap is depressing, stupid and the rest of the world thinks we're a bunch of f'tard ding dongs for being so blind and ignorant.

Mockery and shame don't work with the small dick gun club. I think we just have to wait them out until they all die off. They really are a small minority that got a boost from the NRA/gun lobby.

Otherwise more than gun control, I think required liability insurance (like a car) would make the most sense. Once it starts costing big buck for being a knucklehead, the shootings will slow down. Or as Chris Rock famously said (paraphrasing), screw gun control...just charge $5,000 per/bullet.

Sadly he's one of many. The thing is, I don't blame them for firearms or the 2nd amendment. Those aren't going away. I do blame them for thinking guns are ***** extender or some kind of manhood enhancement...and the ridiculous (literal) flag waving. Seriously, are you so insecure that you need a gun to protect you in broad daylight? Or is it a bully tactic? In which case I say, put your guns down and fight like a real man. A lot of this nonsense and noise stops when the violence becomes personal, and not the cowering detachment of gun use.

Last time there was a school shooting, my old uncle (Korean war vet) in TX posted on FB "shoot 'em first".

More people have died in schools than military service members in 2018: report

Yeah...we're EF'ed...and we're doing it to ourselves.

I get pissed every time a school shooting happens and we get "thoughts and prayers", from you know who. F**ck your "thoughts and prayers", how about getting off your lazy golf playing ass and doing something that keeps kids in school from being gunned down. They are going to school to learn and shouldn't be locked up like prisoners in a Super Max.

This should be an ad for sensible gun control and why politicians should vote against the NRA.

Thoughts & prayers from the GOP. Party line is that more guns are always the solution. Odd that that GOP & NRA conventions were gun free when Trump and Pence spoke, but their solution is always more guns when innocent kids get slaughter over and over again. Australia's worst ever gun massacre was 35 dead/23 wounded in 1996. Second worst was 7 dead within the last month after stricter guns laws were introduced. Las Vegas was ~60 dead/ 800 wounded.

Our children deserve better from their leaders. These kids should be signing each other's yearbooks right now and looking forward to summer and life ahead. Not this.

If tRump's wall could just be built around Texas, I say let the NRA and Texans deal with this issue any way they see fit.

There could be a gun convention where everyone is locked and loaded and s Vegas style shooter still gets away with mass murder. That would shut up their claims that the way to stop a man with a gun is another man with a gun. The assassin should make sure everything he obtained and did was 100% legal leading up to the terror.
Oh, wait. I'm sorry. They'd called for more mental illness identification.

Must limit weapons!

The very people that could effect change--this "red state" voting block--are the ones perpetuating the culture which is at the root of the gun issue. All the window dressing reactive solutions (less doors, no trenthcoats, and even more guns) are farcical discussion points. There is an industry and power structure that wants you afraid and violent. As long as one believes that weaponry is a core ethical right and an essential part of modern American life then you are perpetuating the culture and environment and psychology that begets shooting and oppression.

Yes, regulating guns is an essential first step to limiting the MEANS for public violence. But a change in religious, societal, and economic values is essential to changing the MOTIVES for public violence.

You can't have a class of embittered, impoverished people who are angry at "others" and who do not take personal responsibility but instead listen to the propaganda of institutions (church, state, NRA, etc) and arm themselves, and then expect there not to be violence.

There is much discussion about shifting blame from guns to mental illness...but the mental illness isn't just those crazy people you point to out on the street muttering to themselves. The mental illness is a culture that adores the instruments of destruction and who do not understand themselves and their motivations for doing so. The mental illness is far and wide as those individuals who get pleasure from shooting and killing animals; who get deep excitement by watching violence in media; who confuse loyalty/patriotism and obedience and do not empathize with the victims of military action but instead revel in flag waving and American might; and that mock and loath segments of society they call "weak" who reject the ethics of oneupmanship, of hierarchy, of authoritarianism, of dominance, and of treating all social transactions as confrontations to be won through any means possible. This is a broad accusation, but the real mental illness that is dangerous and manifests in violence is something that those blaming it do not see in themselves.

I agree. It's the same with much conservative economic policy and religious rights...they can't stop themselves, they can't compromise, they want it all...and so reasonable people who were willing to find a middle ground become exactly what they accused us of back when they were just making stuff up.

I want their guns. I want to tax their churches. I want to redistribute their wealth...all these "horrors" their own propaganda and lack of self-control will have brought upon themselves.

I'm so sick of them granting zero improvements to the situation. Let's just eliminate them entirely and work toward the middle from that end of the argument.

What's amazing to me is the same people now claiming we have a culture of violence that is to blame for school shootings are the ones driving the youtube gun culture videos. They aren't clamoring for youtube to ban gun videos because they don't have any intention of making a change. They just want to point to something, anything, that will reduce the impact on their ability to buy unlimited numbers of all manner of weapons.

Governor Abbott's planned give away of a shotgun today isn't just in poor taste because of what happened in Santa Fe, it's in poor taste on an absolute basis and indicative of the true cultural problem we have in this country. It's not gangster rap, video games or John Wick movies, it's a pervasive gun culture and retrograde 'murican culture that teaches young men that it's easier to shoot their problems away than to talk to their parents or seek help in other constructive manners. With a culture this pervasive and ready access to firearms, it doesn't take that many kids to slip through the cracks before you have a big problem on your hands. Which we do.

I'd add the inter webs to the list. The instant availability of images and information, into any kids bedroom, is very different any other generation in the concentration and access...but that leads to crazy expectations.

As a teen who wasn't bend from social and peer pressure. Add in social media/peer pressure, constant images of anything and everything, porn, cyber-stalking, the enticement of wealth from YouTube... and you get the "incel" types who have been empowered by the internet.

I'm not saying the internet is bad, because obviously there's many great uses...but there's also the unseen downside, like absolutely crazy expectations and ideas of entitlement. And how and where to get a cache of guns and ammo to kill a bunch of people.

In many ways it's too late imo. We will not/can not put the genie back in the bottle without major blood shed/ civil war

And there are a few more parts of the discussion that the masses are not ready/prepared for
