Comparing US and Japan is just LOL.
Japan's government doesn't have much authority to enforce the lockdown even in state of emergency, given the fundamental law restriction after WWII. However, they are one of the most self-disciplined countries in the world, by far, and understand the concept of "individual inconvenience for the collective good." Even before the pandemic, Japanese people are already used to wear masks in public.
Whoever uses Japan's number to justify reopening the US is an idiot. Quit the bull**** and look at the scoreboard. Btw, here in Germany the Biergarten are already open for a week. New daily cases has dropped to less than 10% of the peak. People are still nervous and wearing masks in public transit and supermarkets. Meanwhile US couldn't even reduce 40% of the new confirmed cases. But it's the land of free, huh?
EU likely will reopen the internal borders in mid-June and start accept tourists in from selected countries. No doubt people from the remaining high-risk areas, like Brazil, India, UK and US, will be excluded.
