2025 6'6" 305 lbs trench worker mike klisiewicz from liberty high school (in nearby brentwood) is gonna officially trip to the claremont via the caldecott tunnel (is that rite?) on june 20th-23rd

Good stuff! The tiniest of quibbles: It was the French army under Napoleon III,


A brief primer on the Napoleons (this is when you can stop reading):

Napoleon Bonaparte (or "Napoleon I", if you will): The short Corsican with his hand in his jacket (he always kept a sandwich in there, just in case). The brilliant general and founder of the "Napoleon Complex". Inventor of Waterloo. AKA The Real Napoleon, or The Real McCoy (translated). Also invented Napoleon and Josaphine. Though not big himself, he was a really big deal. Crowned himself Emperor, which took major "couilles" (French for cahones). If you want to remember when he was in his prime as a leader (approximately), just remember 1800.

Napoleon II: Not a big deal at all. You could even forget about him entirely, except for that there was a Napoleon III, which causes people to start asking questions. Son of the first one. Actually assumed the job of Emperor for a couple of weeks maybe. Didn't live very long.

Napoleon III: Nephew of the OG. Ruled the French Empire in the mid-1800s for 20+ years. Did a lot of stuff and was a pretty big deal, though will always live in the shadow of his uncle, in terms of fame and glory. Gets remembered annually for his army getting whupped in Mexico on Cinco de Mayo, 1862, in the Battle of the Puebla.

sioape vatikani: arriving in berkeley as already arguably the strongest person in the program (which says a lot about s&c coach brian johnson), sioape's career has been plagued by taking off plays due to a motor that is not always relentless...there wuz sometimes 2023 plays where the 6'4" 330 lbs vatikani literally didn't come in physical contact with anybody...sioape got nfl upside but needs to look deep within himself for the true haka dance warrior that fights to the bitter end

matthew wykoff: the smart texan center directs traffic like a seasoned air traffic controller at jfk on a busy saturday with **** going on everywhere...plays with consistent physicality & don't back down to nobody...at 6'6" 325 lbs matthew gotta improve his athleticism & body flex (sometimes plays too upright)...if there's anybody that would benefit from a yoga/meditation practice it's 100% mr wykoff

bastian swinney: coach bloesch is not running a finesse operation, he wants to run ******* downhill with grown azz trench workers every ******* play...bastian got all the mental & physical tools but cannot fall into the brayden rohme body size downfalll...at 6'6" 290 lbs swinney gotta get over 300+ lbs this summer in order to punish acc defenders...bastian got the most physically fit bearents in the program, there's a lotta fam support for him to get this done

a major factor in cal's sometimes dysfunctional rushing efforts during the 2023 season highlighted by the abject failure in the independence bowl to create gaps for cal's all american running back wuz the continued ongoing failure by coach toler's room to block downfield

props to jim mcgill for asking burl (who is a fantastic recruiter & tremendous ambassador for the cal football program) about his unit's downfield blocking this spring which resulted in an evasive coach speak answer that "if guys don't block then they gonna ride the bench"...in specifically watching the wideouts during the spring game there wuz zero evidence that there's been any transformational improvement in wr blocking

the truth is that the greatest blocking wr in the history of cal football wuz nyan boateng (a hoops star in brooklyn who converted to football & immediately wuz selected to the army hs all american bowl game) who from the slot position would violently crackback on outside linebackers leading to javid best taking pitch outs (the most important play call for the 2024 season with jaydn ott, dial it up coach bloesch) for multiple epic 50+ yard untouched touchdowns...nyan later got caught up in some shady **** (identity theft ring) but his alpha male downfield blocking should be the model/expectation for coach toler's room

the billion dollar industry nfl knows which wrs block downfield, how many wideouts has toler placed into the league?

Shocky, I disagree. So under this theory the WR downfield blocking was good in prior games helping Jayden Ott break off long runs and leading the PAC-12 in rushing, but went away in the Independence Bowl?

I don't see how our poor offense, including negligible yards per carry, in the Independence Bowl was due to poor downfield blocking. How often did we even get RBs to the second level? How many pitch outs did we attempt in that game?

Personally, I was very disappointed in Bloesch's playcalling in that game and am hoping for much better this Fall.

hoops, the cal women's golf team has been underperforming due to anemic recruiting (there are no excuses, the majority of nationally ranked girls juniors got elite gpas) & player development (no lpga standouts) for years... head coach nancy mcdaniel (a breast cancer survivor, her husband jay is the head pro at the alistar mackenzie designed fun/architecturally significant claremont country club) is retiring after 29 seasons...the next head coach needs to be a young women under 30 years old with remarkable relentless recruiting & fundraising energy/passion

the next head coach should inherit 3 very solid players with upside...this team only got 9 counters for title ix purposes & will be protected from the inevitable sport teams cuts in berkeley due to the knowlton driven incoming financial tsunami as a result of his overspending & complete lack of financial discipline/innovation

calalum, just to clarify, coach toler's room has engaged in non existent downfield blocking throughout his time in berkeley, ok?...the lack of wr downfield blocking at the independence bowl wuz exploited by tim deruyter who knew this tendency & sent his corner backs and safeties crashing in to attack the predictable rushing calls into the box...and ur right coach bloesch didn't take advantage of the 8+ raiders in the box with pitch outs to allow our all american running back to create action in space

in speaking with staff & bearents on gameday in shreveport, 2 factors stood out that gave me a bad vibe re: the outcome in advance of the opening kick off:

1) watching pregame warm ups cal's defensive backs & wide receivers wuz noticeably slower than the texas tech dbs & wrs...to marshall cherrington's credit, there has been a focused & successfully infusion of portal transfer recruits with elite SPEED

2) half of the players & specifically the undergrads like nando with haas biz ad finals were tryna balance the highly competitive finals at the #1 ranked public university in the world & a bowl game often studying late into the nite when they should've been prepping/resting their bodies for a bowl game the same week...tv fans will never fully appreciate the toll this took on our younger bears (fyi, the grad cert programs are not as academically stressful & coursework wuz completed prior to flying out to shreveport)

the truth is that the bears should've never played a bowl game on friday december 16, 2023 during a finals examination week in berkeley...that wuz just a dumb decision...a real athletic director would've traded the bears game slot with another pac 12 school but the con artist don't got the relationships with other athletic directors to make that happen

calalum, ima very optimistic re: coach bloesch's upside this fall in terms of his continued steady development of cal's monster offensive line and also opening up the playbook (unlike spav in his 2nd tenure, billy m & beau baldwin) with epic pitch outs on the edges in open space for jaydn ott & also attacking the middle 3rd of the field in the downfield vertical passing game...but yeah the independence bowl wuz a ****show

quarterback coach sterlin gilbert is officially tripping right now 6'4" 210 lbs ohio university grad transfer cj harris from west bloomfield michigan (which is not further afar from 8 mile drive & us open venue oakland hills south course)...pending ncca approvals for medical eligibility extensions, he could potentially get 3 years of remaining eligibility



harris has completed 78 of 147 passes for 829 yards & also rushed for 239 yards during his bobcat career as a mobile running threat...football is a violent game, he would be 2 plays aways this fall from being a starting quarterback in the atlantic athletic conference (the future is unknowable)

cj is not a dumb azz, he already got a masters in management
