Hehe, well you know, Goff is 30, his window for a championship season is getting narrow.

Cowherd is a flip flopper. He'll change his mind on Goff three more times before the end of the season.

Solid opening drive, too bad they reversed the TD.

This is a statement game for the Lions, Chiefs are much better than their record and will roll in postseason.

Lions need to force a TO to break the sh@itty trajectory this game has taken.

I blame myself for this loss.

I usually avoid watching Goff's games. Because I feel he loses when I watch. But since I had time to watch his game last night, I watched, and he lost.

I apologize.

I didn't watch the 2nd half, not sure what happened but it seemed like the Bucs were pushing the Lions OL around.

I didn't watch a minute of this game. (I will tonight.)

I credit myself for this win.

I disagree. He can and has carried a team.

The problem is consistency. A vast majority of the time he is a very good quarterback. But he'll have a couple games a year where he gets into a funk and just cannot get out of it. Last year bad games include:

Tampa Bay - RTG 61.7 - 61.8% completion, 2 int, 0 td (Loss)
Houston - RTG 59.7 - 50% completion, 5 int, 2 td (Win)
Washington - RTG 59.7 - 57.5% completion, 3 int, 1td (Loss)

Those are some really bad game lines with more INT than TDs: 10 int to 3 td.

Outside those 3 games he had the following stats:

341/454 (75% completion)
4082 yards (9 yards per attempt / 272 yards per game)
35 TD (2.33 per game)
5 INT (7:1 TD:INT ratio)

Those are elite numbers. For the Lions to get a super bowl they either need to get lucky and not have Goff have a bad game during the playoffs or they need to figure out how to limit the badness so the game is still winnable. Last year they where 1-2 in bad Goff games and 15-1 in good Goff games.

This year Goff has yet to have a really bad game and they are 5-2.

What does it mean to carry a team? In the NFL, how many qbs have "carried" their mediocre or bad team to a championship? Did Stafford carry Detroit to anything when he was there?

TB12 had almost no Pro Bowl wide receivers during his time in New England and has been noted elsewhere Belichick's talent evaluations (or lack thereof) were covered over by Brady's play

And let's use a current example, without JKS, how would we be doing right now?

I appreciate your points. I am really getting at what it means to "carry" a team. Clearly JKS and TB are/were big value adds to their teams. ChatGPT tells me that half the Superbowl winning qbs did not have an all pro receiver. I think we would agree that Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson, Nick Foles and Trent Dilfer--who did not have all pro receivers--did not carry their teams. And why doesn't the wide receiver get the credit for the pattern and catch instead of the qb's throw? Did Jerry Rice carry the Niners? Did Gronk carry the Patriots? Has Mini carried the Bears in some games?

My post replied to one saying Goff doesn't carry a team, as a comparator to other qbs. Which made me ask--who does? To be successful, almost every qb needs a good team around him. There have been plenty of fantastic qbs stuck on bad to mediocre teams, who are unable to "carry" those teams, Matt Stafford included (who had Megatron to throw to.)

Maybe it is just that the concept of carrying a team in not well suited for football, because there are too many players involved who have to successfully perform on each play to say that one player--even the qb--carries an entire team. Basketball is different. A basketball player can ball hog and score all the points if necessary. We have all have watched lots of players carry their team in basketball over the years.

If you want to say that TB or Mahomes carried some of their Superbowl teams I won't argue with you. But that is pretty rarified air, and to say that Goff doesn't carry his teams is like saying he isn't a top 3% all time player. Well OK I agree he is not that.

I usually do my work from around 6 pm to 10 pm-11 pm Monday through Friday. I also do my work in the mornings. My job is weird.

But the bulk of my work is done in the evenings. I can always delay it and work in the middle of the night (as I did the past 2 Fridays when Cal played). I can also work earlier, but my mind is so used to working in the evenings.

So that's why I rarely watch Monday Night Football or Thursday Night Football.

But on Monday night, I decided to watch the World Series starting with the 7th inning just before Shohei homered. I watched to the bitter end, resulting in me finishing my work in the middle of the night.

(I did watch the World Series on Saturday, but I watched it picture in picture with 3 college football games.)

Anyways, since Shohei homered in the 7th inning Monday, I've watched every inning.

And in those 29 innings, the Dodgers have had 4 total runs.

And so, just like with Goff and the Lions, I'm not going to watch the World Series anymore so that I won't jinx the Dodgers.

No, Cal hasn't been good in a while (unlike the Lions and Dodgers). And when they are good, there is always a caveat. So I can watch Cal football knowing full well I have nothing to do with the outcomes.

I didn't watch Games 6 or 7. I frantically googled "Dodgers score" all night. When it was 5-4, i contemplated turning on the TV and watching. Then I heard fireworks.

Poor outing for the Lions and Goff, getting outplayed by the 3-4 Vikes at home, who are up by 10 with 3min to go. Goff hasn't performed well under pressure/pass rush. Lions not looking like the dominant team they were a season or two ago right now.

Nice finish by Goff, Lions run out of time. Blocked field goal and fumble from deep inside their territory too much to overcome.

Goff did fine, and his numbers from today show this. I saw him take a sack when he had no other option, as the linebacker made a mockery of the block attempt by the running back. As the saying goes, the quarterback gets too much credit when a team wins, and too much blame when a team loses.

This helped. Dan took over play calling/

Per coach Dan on meeting with OC:

"Look, it was honest, it was he and I, and we were good," Campbell said of the meeting. "And like I told him, 'Man, I need you ... but I feel like this is something that I'm going to do.'
