Would enjoy a bit of a deeper dig on the JW situation.

1. What is the goal of the Cal FB team? Simple of course, win.

2. Winning feels good especially for all of us who love the university.

3. A secondary but important goal at least to me, is what kind of over-all experience is created for these young men. It does seem that JW has created a family atmosphere, stresses the team community over the individual and seems to recruit decent human beings. The pride i feel in winning is the same i feel when i think about the over-all experience for these players.

So the question is how important is #3? Probably not enough to change any minds, but at least part of the broader discussion.

Here's a goal that was on Mendoza's and Ott's minds (presumably The Jet, too): provide coaching and an overall environment where players improve their skills to possibly play in the NFL. If you're not a DB, how does Wilcox score on this?

Deeper dig? Jeff Tedford had seasoned coach Bob Foster to help guide him his first year. They coached together at Oregon where Foster was the DC. Foster provided a number of valuable traits.

- a winner at every level
- had been a HC at UC Davis
- an expert at defense and willing to use unconventional schemes (The Flex) to succeed (Gary Patterson raved about him and copid big chunks of his playbook)
- Cal sources claimed he was the best at breaking down film
- high passion and big motivaton

JW has had a rotating crew of OCs.

Absent a good offensive hire, the fallback is keeping Harsin and Rolovich, but is that enough to entice skill talent to come here, not sure man

Foster to some was an under-the-radar hire, UMDavis, Willamette, then Oregon.

How about trying an innovative OC from the FCS? Marion and the GoGo Offense was already snatched up by Sac State, and he will likely bounce this year (his MO).

We have the #104 offense. Last year we had the #74 offense and Bloesch got fired. But people want to promote the guy responsible for us being #104? We are #134 in rushing.

Harsin repelled talent at Auburn and so far has done the same at Cal. 31 players left after his first year at Auburn and his two recruiting classes were viewed as the worst in their history.

After he got to Cal and fired Toler and AT, ALL of our scholarship RBs and WRs left the program, many for worse situations and less NIL.

Last time I provided more detail I got a 1 month ban, but it is public info.
