exclusive monster 2023/2024 mark madsen roster construction plan:
the ncca allows 13 schollys for men's basketball, last season the roster wuz as follows with new 2023 players in special font:
guards:
devin askew (not a true point guard, coach cal recruited him to kentucky as a 2)
joel brown (in graduate transfer portal, haas biz ad degree)
dejuan clayton (outta eligibility but aarp membership is in his future plans)
jarred hyder (in graduate transfer portal, legal studies degree)
rodney brown (2023 recommitment sharpshooter, alan crabbe is the cal player comparison)
wings:
grant newell (the future of cal basketball)
jalen celestine (apparently healthy & ready to growl again)
sam alajiki (in transfer portal)
obinna anyanwu (got major maturity issues but also athletic upside too)
monty bowser (how do u shoot 92.6% on free throws & 27.3% on 3 pointers?)
marsalis roberson (in transfer portal)
posts:
lars thieman (in graduate transfer portal, nutrition science major)
kuany kuany (in graduate transfer portal, sociology major)
nd okafor (huge athletic upside)
devin curtis (2023 recommitment bouncy post gotta live in the weight room & eat 5 meals a day)
right now coach masden got 6 returning players & 2 2023 recruits for a total of 8 players
point guard utah valley's trey woodbury is not in the transfer portal yet like several of his teammates as he awaits hopefully approval from the ncca for another year of eligiblity due to injury, trey is the #1 priority at the 1 as a j kidd kinda true facilitator/distributor that can knock down free throws with ice in his veins with a physical style of play...stanford's isa silva from sacramento is also a possibility as is joel brown returning as a locker room leader/potential back up role
at the post utah valley's aziz bandaogo & texas tech (played the previous year to thi season at utah valley) fardaws aimaq are elite talents, either one could lead the pac 12 in rebounding next season but will the necessary nil dollars be fundraised?...if both could somehow be signed to play together as a 4 & 5, then the bears would be a 20+ win ncca team next year...bet
I'm sorry to see him go. His mother is a wonderful member of the Cal administrative staff (though she is a UCLA grad).eastcoastcal said:California G Marsalis Roberson has entered the transfer portal. https://t.co/y1iHnglsBk

fully expect another undergrad to enter the transfer portal which will be announced soon

I'm of Coach Prime's mindset here: if you were part of a losing environment that struggled to get 3 wins last season, go ahead and jump in the portal!Shocky1 said:teach, maybe joel brownparentswerebears said:

totally agree that a lot of the guys realistically should move on! Maybe joel for me is the exception. I think he's a weapon with his speed, and I liked a lot of what madsen said about playing fast and maximizing players' strengths. I could see him doing really well under Madsen (especially if we hire a great shooting coach)SBGold said:I'm of Coach Prime's mindset here: if you were part of a losing environment that struggled to get 3 wins last wins, go ahead and jump in the portal!Shocky1 said:teach, maybe joel brownparentswerebears said:

I would temper that. This is not Colorado and these guys do not have NBA careers ahead of them. They should probably stay on the team be good teammates and get Cal degrees. However, if they are looking to start or even get significant playing time, chances are probably better at a lower level.
Good point! If you must quote it's not hard to trim the quote, especially using View Source (page icon on the right side).CALiforniALUM said:
Hey Shocky, can you do a public service announcement and ask people not to reply to your posts as a quote? This has nothing to do with the quality of your posts but the fact that they are high quality and quite long. Each quoted response makes my phone want to explode.
I hear ya. I try to avoid BI on my phone.CALiforniALUM said:
I get what you're saying. I was trying to artfully send a message to everybody else to stop using the quote button when all one needs to do is hit the reply button. Because Shocky's posts are perfect examples for my point I singled him out, but he is far from the problem or the solution. Since Shocky appears to have some thick skin I thought I could use him as a foil in reaching his adoring followers. I like reading others viewpoints, but it gets tiring trying to scroll through endless quoting of posts I already read 10 times. When I say my phone wants to blow up I am only half kidding. I seriously think that my phone can't quite find the last post I read leaving me to find where I left off. The reality is that boards like this become more of a black hole where people post, they get a few responses, but the vast majority of traffic has taken an off-ramp because of the "features" of the board that limit the pleasurable experience. I equate it to the football atmosphere in the 80's which has been replaced more recently with piped in music. One still thinks they're having a game experience but at the same time they don't know how much better it could really be.
as shared by the monster a week ago, fardaws aimaq is gonna follow his old head coach madsen to their new home in the san francisco bay area & still fully expect fardaws' close friend trey woodbury to be the point guard for the upcoming season subject to ncca approval of his current appeal for another season of eligilbityQuote:
https://instagr.am/p/Cmk3QSWLz9Z
6'11" 245 lbs texas tech grad transfer portal super senior with 1 year of remaining eligiblity fardaws aimaq is a key target for coach madsen along with his friend/former utah vally teammate trey woodbury (who is awaiting approval notification from the ncca for his appeal for another season due to an injury 2 years ago that caused him to miss a year)
fardaws started his career at mercer, played a season & then redshirted a year after transferring to utah valley state where he blew up winning the wac player of the year award & also leading the nation in rebounds with 15+ per game...aimaq declared for the nba draft in 2022 & ultimately transferred to texas tech (with mark's approval, he really does put his player's best interests 1st) where he averaged 11.1 ppg & 7.9 rpg before a 11th game injury derailed his season
check out the athleticisim & innate sense for the game in this utah valley playing clips, gotta love the alley oop beautiful lobs, that's just good coaching tooLove this game to my core🖤 pic.twitter.com/m0d4jIZWGG

like shareef abdur rahim who wuz attracted to berkeley because of its muslim community, fardaws (who is muslim) is also considering a move to the diverse & beautiful san francisco bay area...aimaq wuz born & grew up in vancouver, his dad faramarz is from afghanistan and moved to germany & then canada to avoid the soviet-afghan war
coach madsen got 4 strong hoopers returning in grant newell, jalen celestine, devin askew & nd okafor, the potential additions of elite talent in fardaws aimaq & trey woodbury could be the right infusions of talent to create a team that is well coached (a false narrative often repeated on this board is that mark fox wuz a strong development/gameday mind, that's not even close to reality) & that plays together with a much faster pace of play & fiery intensity kinda like their new head coach...if this roster is assembled which will require nil dollars, then the bears will compete for potentially 18+ wins next seasonFresh threads ready for Monday 👌@madsen_mark x #GoBears pic.twitter.com/g0Uo5t0DLL

Hey Shocky, thanks for all of the great information, things are very exciting and interesting these days in Bear Territory.
By any chance, is there a timeline as to when to expect a decision from the NCAA regarding Woodbury's eligibility?
with so many open roster spots and the right donor support, this can turn around quickly.LOUMFSG2 said:
Thanks Big C, good to be back. I've continued to follow the program, but I definitely took a break from message boards and following like I used to. I can't remember the last time I was this excited / interested in what was going on. I always try to stay cautiously optimistic and realistic with expectations, and I believe coach Madsen has his work cut out for him as he tries to turn things around here. It may take a little longer than most of us hope, but I definitely have more true optimism long-term than I've felt in a while.
