good news at face value but let's break this down, ok?

in the real world, contract extensions are NOT BINDING and don't really mean ****, got it?...they are a public relationship maneuver to appease fans and assure players & future prospective recruits that the head coach is gonna be around but that don't mean the original terms of the contract (and ability to buy out those terms) usually don't still apply

coach madsen is 100% the right person to lead the cal basketball program, his passion & ability to relate to players (old school "tough love" coaching styles like monty won't work with today's modern player & the portal) but the following issues still exist:

1) not nearly enough nil support due to the alienation of those like jaylen brown (via his clothing line 7uice) that can stroke a check in 10 seconds that hop the bears to the top tier of the acc in nil support

2) an aging fan/donor base that hasn't grown in large part due to markeisha & knowlton not offering FREE tixs to the final 4 home games despite the experimental FREE tixs trial being wild successful in creating a hostile homecourt advantage at the haas of pain...without FREE tixs for students there's no pipeline to future fans...cap

3) zero progress on the critically needed basketball only practice facility, it's gonna be almost impossible to recruit mcdonalds all americans & seriously compete in the ultra competitive acc until shovels are in the ground

bottom line, my prognostication that mark madsen will be the next stanford next head basketball coach might not be accurate at this time & shocky will be happy to be wrong if this plays out that way

and so with that being said if u think mark madsen is gonna be around until 2030 unless the 3 above issues are addressed in the very near future u probably also believe in the easter bunny...and there's nothing wrong with that, the monster is a judgement free safe space

Madsen spent his first year getting the NIL and portal train going, he would have to do that all over again in Palo Alto and probably not looking to spend another season program building from scratch.

foxy, the bears got killed this season particularly on the road due to a lack of physical defensive play & most notably at point guard

he has't entered the transfer portal yet (but is expected to do so) but oregon state point guard with 3 years of remaining eligibility jordan pope from oakley (contra costa county) & prolific prep (napa) is a legit elite player that makes everybody on the court look better (that didn't happen with the strawberry jam cone) that would welcome the opportunity to play his home games in front of moms at the #1 ranked public university in the world

the monster is a big fan of signed 2024 jeremiah wilkinson, pope's potential joining the bears would allow wilkinson to play more of a combo scoring guard role which is probably more suited to his skillset rather than a pure facilitator/distributor at the 1

if he enters the portal, this recruitment makes a lotta sense for all parties

bringing that self entitled mater dei (not football, basketball only thx to gary mcknight) attitude to berkeley, devin askew never really bought into coach madsen's team 1st approach & his moving on is a plus for the program...it wuz very noticeable during team timeout huddles that he wuz always the last guy to get up & support his teammates...to askew's credit he earned his berkeley degree (moms is also a berkeley grad & a medical doctor) & wish him nothing but luck on his whirlwind multiple stop collegiate vagabond basketball career

I don't blame Justice Sueing. I'm surprised anyone stayed a minute after that "team meeting" and most of those who did left Cal before their eligibility ran out.

big c, the reality is that the athletic department & this site (which non inclusively limits information) since the termination of cal's monster class has failed to build a fanbase of new season tix fans & mega donors which is now impacting nil donations

and you can't win in 2024 collegiate basketball without nil donations...full stop

my golf buddy larry sheakley (co owner of the tara iti golf club in new zealand & the cincinnati reds mlb team) tole me how much he paid for 7'1" shot blocker aziz bandaogo, the only way cal will ever be able to compete in this basketball nil game is to get jaylen brown via his clothing brand 7uice to become the face/financier of cal basketball & good luck getting that done since shocky wuz tole to **** off & now he's further afar tryna learn how to do a handstand or something

obstinate markeisha's failure to offer FREE tixs to all students for the final 4 games after the successful FREE tix trial run is mind boggling but the reality is that knowlton is financially bankrupting the athletic department with his tens of millions of dollars of loans that will never have the future revenues for repayment & his hiring/retaining worthless bureaucrats...his knowlton's notes this afternoon fail to address the looming financial tsunami

mcdonald's all americans wanna play in sold out hostile homecourt venues on gamedays like it wuz during cal's monster class era with almost 11,000 at most games...markeisha & knowlton don't really comprehend that not offering FREE tixs to all students is not only killing the vibe at haas but also failing to create a future pipeline of season tix buyers/donors

knowlton also lied to madsen & the fanbase re: the basketball practice facility...mcdonalds all americans are not gonna practice at berkeley high school on tuesday afternoons to get shots up & improve their craft because volleyball got the courts reserved for practice, got it?

mark madsen is the right guy, honestly his only mistake wuz putting together a staff that included guys without berkeley connections...madsen is as good as any head coach in living rooms with his sincerity & mark scherbenske (worked for monty back in the day) is an elite recruiter too but the rest of the staff isn't getting the job done (good guys but they don't know how to sell cal & high gpa prospects re: the berkeley degree value)...mark tried to hire rome but baby mama issues killed that deal, shocky would hire theo robertson and one of the stanford assistant coaches that got let go (stanford is losing elite starting talent to the portal, cal is losing self inflated ego bench warmers) tomorrow...and yeah recruiting an asian walk on is important in engaging the fanbase

big c, i used to love cal basketball with all my heart, now it's kinda just a melancholy memory in my head of a true love that went wrong or something

australian frosh lulu twidale grew up tonite expanding her game from a 3 point sharpshooter to a rim attacker with crafty euro step buckets, that's real world coaching development

my opinion at this point is that coach charmin smith should be retained for next season, if michelle onyiah opts to continue her berkeley studies in a post graduate nuclear submarine studies or something then there are a lotta pieces to continue this program's upward trajectory in the acc...michelle's staying out of foul trouble is a good sign


wut's really noticeable is the genuine energy & enthusiasm of the women's players and staff in their interactions with one another...and that's a polar opposite of the multi highly unlikeable self entitled bad attitude bears (and their dads, dealers & handlers) on this year's men's team (coach madsen is gonna turn this around)...give charmin credit for building a team with positive energy individuals

Just about all the players this past season were somewhat weak defensively. Just go down the roster. Thank God for Kennedy. (Tyson was okay, but needed to spend most of his energy on "O".) Cone got better, I will give him that.

how did it turn out update?

the following former 6 scholly basketball players transferred out after the 2022 season, this is how it played out for them in 2023:

joel brown: averaged 7.6 ppg at iona while improving his 3 point shooting to 37.1% but still shooting a crooked azz 45.2% on free throws which es no bueno for a point guard with the ball in their hands late in tight games...great young man, visited with him as the guest of 4th gen bear at football games multiple times, haas biz school grad

jarred hyder: averaged 10.3 ppg at cal poly on volume shooting with a crooked azz 32.5% on field goals...berkeley legal studies grad & pursuing a mba at slo

lars thiemann: averaged 6.7 ppg at loyola marymount & cut his turnovers in half...berkeley nutrition science grad with highest bear gpa on 2022 roster

sam alajiki: averaged 4.4 ppg at rice, another fox protege with a crooked azz stroke shot 53.3% on free throws, left berkeley without a degree

marsalis roberson: did not play for uc davis but is majoring in human development, left berkeley without a degree

obinna anyanwu: did not play for anybody this season

yeah shocky trusts coach madsen's roster construction decisions & yeah the monster is gonna monitor devin askew, rodney brown jr, grant newell, nd okafor & monty bowser as they pursue their nba aspirations with limited basketball skills & bad attitudes while leaving berkeley with the legacy of the most unlikeable team of self entitled bad news bears of all time of any sport

the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (should not waste highly coveted admissions slots on dumb azzs with no academic purpose)

Well I've been following the team for almost 60 years, and went to about half the home games this year, so hopefully that removes me from the "casual fan" category, and thus keeps me from staying stupid. I'll be able to sleep okay tonight. Thank you, thank you so much.
