Relax guys. Shocky's posts are often funny and light hearted. Don't be so serious. His original Monster thread was the reason I kept coming back to this site. It was full of insights and included some heart warming stories. He was truly a Cal BB superfan and has supported the program in many ways, probably more than anyone else. Don't give him a hard time.

understand your point and giving someone else the benefit/doubt is important; having said that is there a difference between objectifying women or any other harmful cliche/stereotype? Avaricious, hooked-nose Jew, limp-wristed gay person, Muslim with a scimitar, Native American portrayed like the old Cleveland Indians, Blacks and Asians with exaggerated facial characteristics, etc. etc.

Humor is crucial in these times, but Shocky's pictures are neither humorous nor reflective of a board that should be 100% all in for Cal, but decent too.

From a man with a wonderful, intelligent, beautiful wife, two daughters, one granddaughter and appreciation of all that is physical.

Oldsoccer and Gabby,
Actually I have met Shocky and I found him to be gracious and a true Bear fan. My comments were to simply note that if the "Monster" thread upsets folks, they ought not be reading them, as I know Shocky isn't going to shy away from how he makes his major points, including how attending Cal, the Ivies and Stanford gives young athletes the opportunity to build generational wealth, that the Big Twelve is littered with truck-stop, third tier academic institutions, that Knowlton was and the current co-ADs are worthless and that yoga and rescue pets are worthy of our attention.
I also observe that many Bear fans seem to enjoy both the football and basketball "Monster" threads, myself included.
Is some of the content juvenile ? yep. Puerile, no doubt.
Now, this is the point where I might go off the track, pointing out what is IMHO is truly offensive in the current media, but I will refrain.
Peace

Some people find them offensive, some don't. Are they necessary? Probably not. But it's his freedom of expression, protected under our first constitutional amendment. They maybe derogatory, but they are not hate speech nor bigotry as the example you cited. Maybe just lighten up.

Having practiced law for 45+ years and published on the 1st and 14th amendments i completely agree with you on Shocky's right to say whatever he likes.

I think you miss the difference between what is legally protected - say what you like Shocky - and what is appropriate and possibly derogatory.

I would never try to regulate him or anyone else; one would hope we all say our piece, but give some thought to what causes harm.

Seems like the best solution is to not click on the thread - many people don't.

shocky talking ball/strategizing the bishop o'dowd pipeline with fellow hopa/hopa berkeley grad dragons head coach lou richie back in the day when the bears started 4 future nba ballers & sharpshooter jordan mathews playing in front of SOLD OUT 11,000+ fans on big time gamedays in an insane energy haas pavilion!!

yeah shocky is a class act, he moved over down the row as a courtesy to allow mrs spieker to watch the action on the floor/not block her view when the monster stands the whole game shouting instructions like "demand the ball, ivan, demand the ball!!" as part of his coaching duties on behalf of cal's monster class

the MAGIC of cal basketball!!#

The day that I finally get the last word, I am going to choose between "porpoise" and "rutabaga".

So don't go away!
