Hang on a second - this is too cavalier. There is no evidence that it was a pure cancer death. He had a number of known pre-existing conditions: age, obesity, history of heavy drug use, heart problems, etc. Perhaps his deal with the devil just expired, we really don't know for sure. Cancer may have contributed but his days were numbered. I don't mean to disrespect the dead, just asking questions here.AunBear89 said:concordtom said:

Rush Limbaugh, Racist Right Wing Blowhard and Moron, dies at 70 from cancer. Good riddance.
1. That's pretty amazing that you picked up a random radio show 30 years ago, remember who was talking, and what they were talking about.AunBear89 said:
The first and only time I listened to Rush was in '91 in LA. His show was the lead in to XTRA sports talk in the afternoon. I was killing time waiting for a bus to get from work to grad school. I had my AM/FM Walkman tuned to XTRA and caught the last few minutes of his show.
He was ranting about Sweden - a country I had lived in '87-'88 school year. So I thought "Let's see where this goes."
He was talking about the "failed social welfare state" in Sweden, and how they were moving away from it (they weren't). He proceeded to ask why we should ever listen to a country that "doesn't even have a military? And all they do is make chocolate, watches, and those little pocketknives with all the attachments." Yes - he was conflating Sweden and Switzerland.
I decided at that point that he was an idiot and his fans were morons. Nothing in the last 30 has changed my opinion of either.
He got deep stated.Unit2Sucks said:Hang on a second - this is too cavalier. There is no evidence that it was a pure cancer death. Hiring that guy to do Monday Night Football may have been a decision on par with hiring Wyking Jones as our basketball coach. Did Prescient ConcordTom start this Obituaries thread because he knew Limbaugh would be croaking pretty soon and didn't want him to have his own thread?
Limbaugh was HUGELY influential (from my perspective, hugely damaging to our society and to the nation). An amazing number of people listened to him and pretty much swallowed everything he said. And his bombastic style, bravado mixed with some humor, mocking name calling, never apologize, push the envelope about what's acceptable to say, etc. was the forerunner to Trump.
While he doesn't really deserve it, I am going to say something halfway nice about him (because he died today and it surprised me to learn it). Most people that met him when he was not playing to his audience supposedly found him to be pretty much a polite gentleman. While, sure, he was conservative, his show was a show. His schtick. He was quite aware of that fact. This was anecdotally corroborated by my most leftist of friends, who once, somewhat to his surprise, found himself dealing with Limbaugh in person (a small afternoon meeting) and in a follow-up conference call: "If you didn't know that it was Rush Limbaugh, you never would've known it was Rush Limbaugh."
The fact that he knew that what he was doing was schtick doesn't get him a pass for it, don't get me wrong.
Once he realized how much money he could make, he just became mean. Especially after the Supreme Court decision in Bush v Gore, where his coverage was quite good and departed from the liberal narrative about how the votes were being undercounted in Florida.
Mark Levin. If you haven't listened to him yet, boy oh boy, he's a real gem.SFBear92 said:Hiring that guy to do Monday Night Football may have been a decision on par with hiring Wyking Jones as our basketball coach. I wonder which current RWNJ talking head scoops up whatever is left of his audience?
I think Dennis Miller was on MNF but I don't remember Limbaugh being on ABC. I think he may have been on ESPN but got booted after saying something about McNabb. Dennis Miller was a disaster anyway on MNF.SFBear92 said:Hiring that guy to do Monday Night Football may have been a decision on par with hiring Wyking Jones as our basketball coach.
