I always liked that song, though it's very much a product of the mid '60s R&B style. I hadn't seen him before but I thought he had good stage presence. The audience members they cut away to didn't seem very impressed with him though.okaydo said:

While Peter, Paul, and Mary were way before my time for some reason a relative of mine wanted to take me to Wolf Trap when I was visiting Virginia. PP&M were in town so that is what we saw. The crowd was all ages as you might expect as it was outside on the grass. I have to say that I enjoyed myself and the Puff The Magic Dragon singalong with the audience was great. They had a broad appeal across generations.
PP&M did this John Denver song proper. A good song well sung (1969):
