I bet he expected die from a cocaine damaged heart years ago like a couple of famous Bay Area college athletes did.

When I was growing up his sister, Rose, a band member, lived a stone's throw (pun intended) from St. Paschal's and Sequoyah Country Club (next door to a buddy on Sequoyah View Court). His bass player, Larry Graham (later of Graham Central Station), lived out by Lake Chabot Golf Course on Malcolm, off Golf Links Rd.

I always dug this tune. Not one of his big hits:

Sly Stone played a critical role in the development of funk with his pioneering fusion of soul, rock, psychedelia and gospel in the 1960s and 1970s. (Wikipedia)

*He killed it at Woodstock.

Yeah. Brian Wilson is at the Pearly Gates finding out if God Only Knows. Also, whether Rhonda can really Help him now.

Loved his Beach Boys music in the mid 80's, young, free and top down!!!

I think it was controversial at the time because of having "God" in the title.

Incredible lyrics and melody to this one.

Another keeper:

On my Beach Boys Playlist I only have the songs Brian sang lead on and a couple of keepers from Carl, who sounded like Brian. Carl sang lead on God Only Knows. I never was a fan of Mike Love.

The Beatles were greatly influenced by The Beach Boys and vice versa. The legend is that the first time Wilson heard "Strawberry Fields" he was in a car and pulled over in despair, muttering " they got there first."

"He's like Mozart or Chopin or Beethoven or something. This music will live forever. It's going to be these melodies and these words. It's just fantastic. I can't describe it. There's very few writers I feel the emotional and spiritual contact with that I feel with Brian."
Neil Young

"Heard the sad news about Brian today and thought about all the years I've been listening to him and admiring his genius. Rest in peace dear Brian."
-Bob Dylan

Questlove posted a lengthy tribute on Instagram, writing, "If there was a human being who made art out of inexpressible sadness … damn it was Brian Wilson … Without him I dunno how so many that came after felt safe to express a feeling of sadness that most humans would be otherwise ridiculed/punished for."

This morning, I rewatched this documentary. (It's great, if you haven't seen it.)

In it, Brian Wilson recalls Sly Stone visiting his house and sleeping over.

If only they knew they would die days apart.

(Taylor Hawkins is also featured extensively, talking about the fallibiity of musiicans.)

I remember sitting outside with a friend on a warm September evening in . . . 1975 and we were arguing over who was the better band, the Beach Boys or the Rolling Stones - I championed the Beach Boys. Arguing for the BBs at that time was not a popular stance and my friend thought I was nuts. Fifty years later, I still don't own any Stones records/CDs, but what I should have said back then was that the Stones were a better band, but the Beach Boys produced better music. I'll stand by that.

The Stones do not have a genius like Brian Wilson. If I were to tell you to download some Stones songs, it would be these:

1. Sympathy from the Devil (Get Yer Ya Ya's Out album);
2. Can't You Hear Me Knocking (Sticky Fingers album);
3. Time Waits for No One (It's Only Rock 'n Roll album);
4.Gimme Shelter (Let it Bleed album);
5. Monkey Man (Let it Bleed);
6. You Can't Always Get What You Want (Let it Bleed);
7. She's a Rainbow (Their Satanic Majesties Request);
8. Dandelion (on multiple compilation albums);
9. Dancing with Mr. D (Goats Head Soup album);
10. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) (Goats Head Soup);
11. Sister Morphine (Sticky Fingers);
12. Jumpin' Jack Flash (Get Yet Ya Ya's Out);
13. Sway (Exile on Main Street);
14. All Down the Line (Exile on Main Street);
15. Spider and the Fly (Out of Our Heads album).

Keith Richards must be some kind of genius to maintain that delicate balance of nicotine, alcohol, and various drugs and live for his (so far) 81 years - and he doesn't look a day over 97 years-old!

*Ronnie Cox was in Fugitive Family, the made for TV movie I had a 4 second role in as an FBI agent. I spoke to him on set. He was nice.
* The David Soul/Michael Gross movie was subsequently used as an FBI training film.

Thanks! I have never been able to find that. I'm sending it around to the guys that were in the movie with me. We are in the last 5 minutes when all the FBI agents rescue Walter White's (Bryan Cranston's) future wife, Robin Dearden,from the Mob.

I'm the guy in the far left side of the top frame and I am in full running stride on the left in the bottom frame. I was 26. I think they paid us $50.

*Me and my buddies, all playing FBI agents, hit the movie at around the 1:26 mark and by the 1:27 mark, our Andy Warhol 15 minutes of fame is over. My scene is 3 seconds long running to the car with a pistol in my hand.
