Ouch! Home delivery is for Door Dash, not babies.

Not a really smart post by you.

RIP Andy. Andy was killed by "non toxic" and "harmless" orange oil in last week's calamity on Lincoln Avenue that claimed the lives of at least 12,650 others.

Andy's sister, Amanda, reminisces that Andy was a promising larva, a bit of a "goody two shoes" at that age, but as a pupa, Andy got caught up with a "somewhat undesirable army." Andy stopped foraging in 1989 and followed the Grateful Dead for six years. Then, Andy never really got back on all six feet after his thorax was badly injured in 2001 when he attempted to carry a leaf that was twelve times his own body weight.

Sadly, after his 2001 injury, Andy could no longer forage, and he struggled with mental health issues in subsequent years. Despite the colony's best efforts to help him, Andy largely refused help and lived mostly hill-less from that point on. Those who had bumped into him in the vicinity of Lincoln Avenue in recent years reported they barely recognized him, save for the faded "Dark Star" tattoo on his lower abdomen.

Amanda will always remember Andy's playfulness and his kindness towards others. "That was Andy," Amanda said, tears filling her ocelli. "He treated everyone the same, no matter the color -- red or black -- of their exoskeleton."

Andy leaves behind a Queen and 13,213 siblings.

I knew Andy when he was younger, he came out to football games, mostly Tightwad Hill. I remember this one game, he was eating this huge tuna sandwich on rye with alfalfa sprouts hanging out on all sides. Made we want to eat nothing else but a tuna sandwich right then and there. I mean whoever thinks about tuna sandwiches? Unfortunately, I didn't know he was struggling with mental health issues and I'm guessing these problems surfaced as he got older. It's comforting to know at least he had a large family around him for support.
RIP Andy.

In Memoriam July 20

100th Anniversary

Pancho Villa

Pancho was a bandit boy
His horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel

Pancho met his match you know
On the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dying words
Ah but that's the way it goes

All the Federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him slip away
Out of kindness, I suppose
-Townes Van Zandt, Pancho and Lefty (1972)

I like her version even better than Willie's and Merle's (which is the most popular):

50th Anniversary

*I saw him on my 41st birthday at the Concord Jazz Festival. HE KILLED IT!

* "Bennett was praised often by his peers, but never more meaningfully than by what Sinatra said in a 1965 Life magazine interview: "For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business. He excites me when I watch him. He moves me. He's the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more."

Those are great clips. Hans Conried in the Danny Thomas one brought back the memory of this show that he hosted when I was a boy. My buddies and I thought it was hysterical. I guess no one else did. Cancelled after one season in 1963.

Tony Bennett. RIP

I'm sure many in San Francisco will be honoring Tony. He made our City known, or perhaps better known, throughout the world.

Back in the day, my uncle's restaurant, the Fior d'Italia, owned by George and Frank Marianetti, had a Tony Bennett Room for banquets, complete with copies of all of Tony Bennett's Gold Records on the walls. I always enjoyed visiting or dining there, especially in that room. There was a fire, and much of the restaurant was damaged. The Fior, under new owners, relocated to Mason St, and eventually Original Joe's took over the property and built a new Original Joe's on the spot, and included the Tony Bennett Room.

So you are at least part paisano. Well done. Didn't that restaurant used to advertise on AM radio?

You need to get this one. I researched it and many say it is his best. He was in his prime. I'm actually listening to it now.

You nailed it. All of it. First, that is my favorite Tony Bennett song.

Grandfather was from Opi in the Abruzzi. He came to the USA, when he was 12, traveling alone by ship with 15 bucks in his pocket. He joined some family in Buffalo, attended some high school, and made his way to San Francisco. He worked as a telegraph operator for Southern Pacific, had 5 kids, and decided to be a lawyer. Law school was not a requirement to take the Bar, so he studied law books at night, and worked during the day. He passed the Bar. The courts could not pronounce his Italian name, so he changed it to an English name. Most of his early clients were Italians, including many poor farmers in the Valley. They had to borrow money to buy or lease land to farm. Farms produced a good crop maybe 1 out of 4 years, and the banks would foreclose on them during the bad years. Bank of America, owned by AP Giannini, was the worst. My grandfather loved beating the Bank in court and saving the land for these farmers. Most of the time they had no money to pay him, so they invited him down to their farm and had a big banquet, sending him home with a car loaded with vegetables and fruit. He was selected as a Delegate to the Democrat Convention in New York which nominated Al Smith. My dad was 12, and he went with his father on the train to New York City.

The Fior d'Italia is the oldest Italian Restaurant west of the Mississippi. Founded in 1886. One of the former owners, George Marianetti, worked there as a boy, when it was up on Broadway. George used to have regular spots on AM radio, where he would give out the recipe for an Italian dish or a sauce. One of the old San Francisco North Beach characters, who knew everyone who was anyone. When he retired, I used to take him the Capp's Corner or Dante Benedetti's for drinks and a meal with more characters. One time, his son, Paul Mantee, an actor and Hollywood character himself, flew up to SF for George's Birthday party at Capp's. Paul came up behind him and said, "Dad, I brought a friend I'd like you to meet. George turned around, and it was Rod Steiger. They both told story after story until 2AM. I used to drop by the Fior after closing and have pot luck dinner with the waiters and kitchen help. Delicious. And any time I had woman trouble (more often than I'd like to admit), I knew I could always stop by the Fior for a sympathetic consolation. George had seen it all in his own life, and knew just what to say.

I know you are but what am I?

I read somewhere that early in his career one of his fellow comedians advised him to drop the Pee Wee Herman bit but he obviously did not take that advice.

I think he should be best remembered for Pee Wee's Playhouse, which was great entertainment for children and adults alike.

More lies from the lying liar. You pretend to know what you are talking about. Care to elaborate on the details of the charges against him? Or do you just post snark and bull**** blaming all the world's problems on Democrats because Bernie never won?
