"Dick was an animal. I called him a maniac. A stone maniac. He was a well-conditioned animal, and every time he hit you, he tried to put you in the cemetery, not the hospital."

Deacon Jones, Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end

Consistently cited as one of football's meanest, toughest, and most feared players, Butkus was renowned for his intimidating profile and style of play.[21][15] He was known to snarl at the opposition prior to plays.[55] Quarterbacks would complain of Butkus biting them in pileups.[56] Lions tight end Charlie Sanders recalled Butkus poking him in the eyes with his fingers through his face mask.[57] He once intercepted a pass from Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton near the goal line, and instead of taking the ball into the end zone for an easy touchdown, he took aim at Tarkenton to run him over.[6] When asked by a reporter if he was mean as the rumors suggested, Butkus replied, "I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately. Unless it was, you know, important like a league game or something."[58]

~ as one of the last to receive the then yet-unscarred and care-free Darryl Stingley's autograph + rare '#84 has . . . ' slogan before the Raiders pre-season match-up, who was the hardest hitter, by weight - Tatum, Atkinson, Hayes, Lott, Butkus, . . .?

It is way too subjective. Most of these guys are on everyone's list:

It was on September 26, 1964 that #3 ranked Illinois with Dick Butkus, and coached by former Cal coach Pete Elliot, came to Memorial Stadium to play our Golden Bears led by Craig Morton along with Jack Schraub, Tom Blanchfield, Tom Relles, Jerry Mosher, and coached by Ray Willsey. I was in the rooting section that day, but I don't remember much about it. I do remember Butkus being all over the field. It was a close game, with the Bears ending up losing 20-14. Butkus finished 3rd in the Heisman voting that year. In 1963, the Bears also played Illinois and Butkus in Champaign, and lost 10-0. We played Illinois and Dick Butkus tough, is all I can say.

If so, maybe it wasn't Ronnie doing the seducing.

Suzanne Somers, the actress best known for her roles in TV comedies including "Three's Company" and "Step by Step," has died, her longtime publicist announced Sunday. She was 76 years old.

"Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th," R. Couri Hay said in a statement. "She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly."

Very funny and beautiful lady who reinvented herself many times.

76 really isn't that old any more. Cancer is horrible.

It seems younger and younger every year, right?

Just remember…it's still really hell of old to those 10 year old boys.

I graduated high school, college, etc. in the 1970's. They never spun his records on No Jive 95 FM KSAN. I have never heard those songs. What the F is "power pop?" My guess is his record sales in the SF Bay Area we're $0.00.

I recognized the name Dwight Twilley, but I thought he was a country artist, perhaps verging on Rockabilly.

Could be. I wouldn't be surprised if I mixed Dwight Twilley up with another artist.

Thanks to your post, now I officially know that I had never heard of Dwight Twilley….and now, in a case of "great minds think alike," I know that both of us were thinking of this guy:

Harold Lloyd Jenkins (September 1, 1933 June 5, 1993), better known by his stage name Conway Twitty, was an American singer and songwriter. Initially a part of the 1950s rockabilly scene, Twitty was best known as a country music performer. From 1971 to 1976, Twitty received a string of Country Music Association awards for duets with Loretta Lynn. He was inducted into both the Country Music and Rockabilly Halls of Fame." Wikipedia (with apologies to the Yoginator for the sourcing):

*Brother Twitty departed planet earth 30 years ago.
*John C. Reilly definitely gets the nod for any biopic….or Danny McBride.

Fell in love with her voice as a boy when she was part of the birth of underground Rock FM radio at KMPX and stayed with her through her No Jive 95 FM years. In the history of broadcasting, no one had a sexier voice (and the looks to match).
