I can't believe no one ever told Elon that corporations have first amendment rights so I would assume he just wasn't listening. Maybe he can search for Citizens United on Twitter.okaydo said:Lol. Lol pic.twitter.com/RQ5CAVC0JQ

Afghanistan, and Ukraine, and to defend the needs of those particularly at risk of human rights abuse by virtue of their social media presence, such as journalists & human rights defenders.

It’s kinda amazing that the man has over 100 million followers, his timeline and mentions column must be jammed full, but he always manages to seek out the worst of the worst rightwing accounts to reply to, & in the nicest, most agreeable way. Just total coincidence, I’m sure.

Birdwatch notes can appear or disappear based on how many people found them to be helpful. Twitter cannot edit or modify them unless it violates Twitter rules.

These are all private businesses that have first amendment rights (thanks to the conservative supreme court's ruling in citizens united) as well as businesses to run.oski003 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:You've had all those already. Where did movielover talk about Google? Besides, there are plenty of other search engines if you don't like Google or Duck Duck Go. Bing for one.oski003 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:You've had all those already. Where is the monopoly if all points of view have their outlets?movielover said:

I expect that after Musk finishes tossing out the dead wood and the people who know how the underlying software operates, he'll have Twitter running just smoothly and efficiently as Truth Social, Parler and Gettr.Unit2Sucks said:These are all private businesses that have first amendment rights (thanks to the conservative supreme court's ruling in citizens united) as well as businesses to run.oski003 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:You've had all those already. By far the least inclusive social media companies are the right wing ones - see how easy it is to get banned from Truth Social, Parler, Gettr, Gab, etc. As Elon Musk is learning (and investors in the right wing extremist oriented companies have already figured out), advertisers don't like being associated with extremist content. That's why they regularly pull advertising from controversial TV programs and it's not a new concept. I suspect that Truth Social will shut down in the next few months because Trump is the only one with any real economic interest in it and unlike real billionaires he is unable to either fund it or convince anyone else to lend his venture money. Parler, if acquired by Ye, will also likely shut down soon thereafter.
Google has a business to run and will decide what it wants to promote based on a variety of factors but none of them would rely on the fact that they can choose not to highlight something because other search engines will. Google is not a US government entity and is a beneficiary of the first amendment, not restricted by it.

Just like Trump will rush back to twitter within minutes of Papa Elon restoring his access, you talk a big game and have no conviction. If you were a real free speech warrior you would join all your like-minded souls on Truth Social for the next few weeks until it runs out of money or some other dark hole on the internet but instead you come here to troll between bans.
But please continue to pretend like you are aghast at moderation.

Musk may well know what he's doing when presiding over an EV company.
But he certainly looks like a fish out of water when it comes to running a Digital Media company.
Advertisers continue to flee Twitter as civil rights groups call for a boycott (yahoo.com)
Thank you.

A thermonuclear name & shame is exactly what will happen if this continues.
Cancel culture has always been a conservative mainstay. Punishing corporations for protecting their businesses by avoiding sponsoring objectionable content is as Republican as complaining about government spending while taking advantage of it every which way possible.movielover said:DiabloWags said:

Everyone seems to have a theory on whether Musk is purposefully trying to destroy Twitter or is taking directions from a foreign government, but you're overthinking it. Musk is simply America's dumbest oligarch. He got in over his head and there's no government payout coming.

not really, most are just upset that republicans embrace the worst that humanity has to offer and literally define the word hypocrite. When the christian right embraces a man who openly brags about assaulting women and mocks the handicap, its not hard to see how far they've strayed from the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are hypocrites to an extreme. There is a special place in hell for people like that.movielover said:
