Without the exploitation of underage girls it would be nothing. There would be no Epstein files, so at its base it is about two wealthy pimps selling sex with underage girls first and foremost. The rest came after the underage girls were in place. This was a crime against human beings, underage girls that were in middle school and not yet out of high school in furtherance of something else but let's not get it twisted it was first about the abuse of children. Let's take care of the that before we move on to the next part as the victims deserve closure.

The only weird thing in the entire obvious set up with Maxwell is when she said she doesn't think Epstein killed himself.

The proper answer, and undoubtedly the scripted one, would have been:

"Well, it's entirely speculation on my part, but I have seen Jeffrey very down on several occasions in the many years I have known him, so facing the prospect of a life sentence,
and after living a life of luxury, I believe the table was set for his suicide."

* I tried a wrongful discharge action in the late 1980's against a bank. The defense attorney had scripted false testimony of the entire board of directors. One of the directors panicked at trial and told the truth on a key point during direct exam by defense counsel. Upon hearing the unscripted truthful response from his witness he looked like he was going to have a stroke. The jury kicked his client in the creek with a large verdict.

This is also illustrative of why Trump can never take the witness stand in front of a jury. He lies like a 10 year old boy that got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and he often rambles on, inadvertently making admissions. He simply doesn't have the grey matter to be a sophisticated liar that can memorize a scripted consistent and believable false narrative prepared by one of his crooked attorneys.
