One would think a female who works with other females the age of these victims would be a little more caring to the issue.

Your post would be understandable if you were a different party (older, this doesn't affect you), but that you are the demographic that you are and you still turn your head to it shows that you are

Let me ask you about the issue of rape?
I've had numerous friends and family members be raped. I've known of date rape, gang rape in hs of a passed out girl, and a number of other lurid, sad, stories. More recently, I've also raised 5 girls. This is all to say, I'm very sensitive to the issue and my antenna are up.

Further, as a male, I understand my own sex drive, and I understand men in a group, whether that be in fraternity or at work or….

There is an evolutionary Play at work here, and it results in women getting victimized.
