From what I can tell, I don't think I would say Kirk was specifically racist against Black people, though he was highly inflammatory in his statements about affirmative action or DEI or whatever and walked right up to the line while criticizing those things (purposely, I suspect).
I think he probably was racist (or prejudiced, or whatever you prefer) against Muslims. I also suspect several of our conservative posters here agree with him on this.

Not to mention some of the usual Trump Derangement Syndrome. Trump is basically a bitter old guy who insults everyone regardless of race, creed, or any other grouping Hilary Clinton could come-up with. There are blacks, Hispanics, legal, gay people, legal and illegal immigrants, Arabs, Jews, veterans, men, women, POWs, Jed Bush's and Ted Cruz's wives, the disabled, celebs such as Taylor Swift, Iowans (e.g., people from Iowa) and many other states, the French (maybe deserved), journalists, business executives, etc. If you are in a group he has not insulted yet, just wait a few minutes. Trump basically objects to so many different people and groups, he is a universal bigot. He dislikes everyone. That fact that he is President twice probably says something about the candidates that opposed him.
The problem with Kirk was that he was a smart, likable and young, and debated people at colleges. He even went to centers of liberal elitism where it wasn't cool to be conservative. He was a big deal to the discussion on campuses of important issues that are forbidden in PC schools, and students of various political views approved of his voice being heard, even when they didn't like what he said. To their credit they are angry that he was shot, and what that meant.
A whole generation gets their news or gets more informed through podcasters, influencers and similar folks. Ask your kids of relevant age if Kirk was a big deal for their generation? He was considered approachable in a way that most politicians are not, and was not afraid to have an honest debate with those he disagreed with, and college kids, more sturdy that we think, appreciated that.
His goal seemed to be to make college campuses more friendly to conservative students by making conservative ideas like free market economics and traditional gender roles more popular. This philosophy also has to do with not feeling a need to apologize for one's identity. A big divide between liberals and conservatives is how they explain disadvantage. It is issue that should be discussed and it is not, especially by you adults. And all so far so good.
But at some point Charlie was becoming what one magazine called "a social and cultural identity that was ends transforming campuses and Gen Z." He needed to be better than Trump with his language. Instead, he said a lot of controversial, offensive, in many cases bigoted things. Controversial and even offensive is okay, but hating on some groups of people or individuals for clicks isn't. And the thing is he didn't need to go there with the following he had. I'm attacking the man with words, not bullets. But Kirk should have been better than that.
Was he personally a bigot? I don't know. There are now stories coming out about getting black artists into the White House and black and gay celebs saying he wasn't a bigot. Maybe on a personal level he wasn't. I already said my piece on his some of the things he said.
