Mitch McConnell is Frankie Fat Lips. James Comey is Jimmy the Snitch and Paul Ryan is Paulie No Nuts Weasel.

Will the Republican Party be damaged by slow walking the multiple investigations and delaying the appointment of a special counsel or independent counsel to investigate the multiple accusations? With the 2018 midterm elections coming up, will there be any pain felt for the continued support of Trump? Manafort financial dealings post Trump campaign are being examined by multiple agencies and investigations. The White House's explanations of that's just how Trump talks, and Comey's representation of the meeting is inaccurate, are less than believable. Subpoenas are flying around Washington. Trump has gone back to blaming the media, while the Russians have offered their help is discerning what was really said in the room with Trump. Oh, there's the Flynn thing.

Out here the Trump name was promoted as MONEY.
His organization signed a deal to manage a newly built Native American Casino in Indio,
great deal, management fee was 30% of gross revenue. Total revenue barely changed,
but Trump was making his 30%. After two years the tribe realized it had been had
and exercised a multi-million dollar buyout to get rid of Trump Casino management.

A few years later it has recovered to be one of the better casinos in the Palm Springs area.

It'll take a few years for the Government to recover as well...

The GOP is desperately trying to figure out how to push through its legislative agenda before the roof caves in. As long as Trump keeps talking and tweeting, their hands are tied. When others start talking, they're screwed. They are trying to figure out when to cut bait.

The flipside is, it's early. If Trump is tossed soon Pence would have a full year to work with the GOP to get a legislative agenda set and signed through, which would be a breeze for him since he spent a decade in the House and knows all the power players in DC. After the Memorial Day recess they basically have a 30-day window to decide where to go.

True, but if they waffle too long and this gets deeper, many of them are screwed, even if they come from conservative districts.

Sounds like the Russians taped their Oval Office meetings with the President, without his (advance?) knowledge; which makes him look incompetent.

Most of the Media has forgotten the investigations into the allegations that the Trump real estate ventures were actually laundering money for the Russians. His main financial bank,
Deutsche Bank, the giant German lender was hit with about $630 million in penalties on Tuesday over a $10 billion Russian money-laundering scheme that involved its Moscow, New York and London branches. US Attorney for Manhattan had launched a similar investigation until fired by Trump. I also find it conflicted that the President could sell his Florida mansion to a Russian oligarch for a $80 million profit and then claim he had never conducted (real estate) business with Russians. Remember the lengthy Congressional investigation into the Clintons losing between $37,000 and $69,000 on their Whitewater investment; imagine how much time and effort Congress would have to take to investigate Trump's mega-million/billion dollar real estate transactions; Ivanka will be president by then.

The other downside for the Repubs is the Trump voters who will not be thrilled or loyal to the party who took their hero away.

Trump's coalition does not align with GOP orthodoxy anyway, what really drives the Democrats nuts is that Trump stole the working-class vote from them, and with Trump gone that segment would be up for grabs again, but the Dems do not have any prominent figure (besides Bernie Sanders) or policy initiative to attract them with. They would be disgruntled, but would give Pence and the GOP a chance.

If the Republicans forcefully remove Trump from office, I think their best scenario is that these voters don't vote

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016 exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy."

"When initially asked to comment on the exchange, Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Ryan, said: “That never happened,” and Matt Sparks, a spokesman for McCarthy, said: “The idea that McCarthy would assert this is absurd and false.”

After being told that The Post would cite a recording of the exchange, Buck, speaking for the GOP House leadership, said: “This entire year-old exchange was clearly an attempt at humor. "

Welp. At least we know it's not just dems that think Trump's a Kremlin puppet.

Boom! The Assistant AG: Rosenstein, appoints Robert Mueller, the long serving FBI Director to the position of Special Counsel. How fast will Trump's congressional support start to wane. Does this make the White House radioactive? Will it be Manafort or Flynn who is first to be indicted and will they implicate anyone else? How long will this investigation and any resulting trials continue, 2018? Will any other investigations be started because of new information uncovered? How does Comey figure into the Special Counsel's investigation? The White House response I imagine would be, Oh F.ck! Get your popcorn ready.

Maybe Hillary will run for congress in NY in 2018, win, get appointed speaker of the house and assume the presidency after Trump's impeachment finally completes (of course it would need to implicate Pence simultaneously).

Holy smokes. So the GOP leadership knew about this from the start and covered it up.

I mean, that doesn't surprise me. It just surprises me that we've actually got something concrete on the record.

Drip drip drip. It's almost like declaring war on the newsmedia and the FBI was a bad idea.

This very well could have been a joke. Or maybe Paul Ryan is as useless as I believe him to be. Who knows, but the soundbite is out there. I'm actually super curious about who in the room leaked the tape...

Makes sense, the last thing we need is a wealthy New Yorker perceived to be corrupt and not trustworthy. Can't have that in the WH. Patriots want a Goldman -free administration.

I'm also going to say that Ryan swearing everyone to secrecy immediately after the remark doesn't help the argument that this was just a joke.

Hmm, not sure how?

EDIT: Ryan's office denied anyone ever said that, then when told there's a tape, their story changed to "It's just a joke." I know that's how I'd behave if there is nothing wrong here.

Now comes a report that Trump aids knew that Flynn was under investigation prior to his appointment as National Security Adviser. The only question concerning this little morsel of information is, which aids are they talking about and when did they find out? Was Devon Nunez or Jeff Sessions one of the people involved in this comedy of errors? How in the HELL can you screw up this badly less than 130 days into your Presidency? The writers of "Veep" couldn't come up with this crap.
