"Coffee is trading below $1 a pound, less than half the value it fetched five years ago, because of a flood of beans from leading producer Brazil and its weakening real currency, Axios Markets editor Dion Rabouin writes.

Why it matters: In a market twist, the falling prices of coffee beans could lead to higher coffee prices for Western consumers.
Wait! What? "Many growers around the world are having to abandon their farms or turn to illicit crops such as coca," the Financial Times reports (subscription). "This, in turn, is casting doubt over the future sustainability of supplies and could, ultimately, prove costly for consumers."

Be smart: The WashPost points out that coffee's downturn is adding to the historic flow of migrants, struggling on farms in Central America, to the U.S." Axios

So the Idiot In Chief says in an interview with George Stephanopoulos, that he would not immediately go to the FBI if contacted by a foreign government trying to provide negative information on a political opponent. What has he done to the 2020 election? Every foreign power known will be trying to contact this idiot to blow up the US election, thereby sowing chaos at a time when the underpinnings of our government continue to be under great stress.

Watching the House GOP Leader, Kevin McCarthy, trying to equate the obtaining of the Steele dossier with Russian interference and Trump's comments about accepting help from a foreign entity is a head-scratcher. He can't do enough gymnastics to make his arguments plausible. Trying to blame democrats for Trump's actions while in and out of office is like trying to tell the police officer that pulled you over at 2:00 am that the bag of weed he found in your car along with half smoked joint he found in your pocket is not your or belongs to a friend that you just dropped off. There is a giant flashing red neon light that spells, "NO!"

Hahahaha, it's about time!!!!

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, one of the most visible faces of the Trump administration, plans to leave her job at the end of the month, President Trump announced Thursday in a Twitter message in which he also urged her to run for governor of Arkansas.
Sanders, 36, has been with Trump since the campaign, which she joined after managing the unsuccessful run for the nomination by her father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. She was initially hired as principal deputy press secretary in the White House and elevated to the top job in July 2017, after her predecessor, Sean Spicer, left.
Sanders came under frequent attack for defending Trump's repeated falsehoods and misleading the press.
Her credibility took a serious blow after she admitted to special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's office that her public assertions that many FBI workers had expressed support for Trump'sfiring of former FBI director James B. Comeywere fabricated.
When Mueller's report on his investigation became public, she called her remarks a "slip of the tongue."
She has not held a formal press briefing in 94 days, a modern record. Her job has also been made difficult by Trump's propensity for making his own announcements, including her departure.
"After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas," Trump tweeted Thursday. "She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for governor of Arkansas she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!"
Trump did not name a successor for Sanders, underscoring the sense of turmoil in the press office that has been beset by turnover.
The administration also has no official communications director. Bill Shine, the sixth person to hold that title, resigned in March. Anthony Scaramucci famously led the communications staff for 11 days in 2017.
As Sanders has all but given up holding formal news briefings, she has continued to appear on cable news often Fox News defending the president. She also engages in relatively short and less formal encounters with reporters as she leaves the broadcast tents situated on the White House lawn.
She is among a small cadre of advisors who regularly travels with Trump and sits with him during meetings with foreign leaders and White House visitors.
Trump called her to the stage Thursday in the middle of an event on criminal justice reform in the White House East Room.
Trump, who values people who he views as tough and aggressive defenders, paid her the ultimate compliment, calling her a "warrior."
"We've been through a lot together," he said, calling Sanders a "special person" and a "very fine person."
He also repeated that he's encouraging her to run for governor in Arkansas in 2022.
Sanders thanked and hugged the president for what she called "the honor of a lifetime" and promised "to be one of the most outspoken and loyal supporters of the president and his agenda" after returning home to Arkansas.
"I've loved every minute, even the hard minutes," she said. "I've loved it. I love the president."
Sanders grew up working in her father's political campaigns but had never faced the kind of fame and scrutiny she encountered in Trump's White House. In a recent interview with The Times, she spoke about the struggle to forge an identity while being associated with a well-known political family.
"Everybody assumes you think like everybody else in your family," Sanders said. "But you're just kind of boxed into that."
Sanders' prominence made her a target of Trump's critics. She won sympathy after last year's White House Correspondents Assn. Dinner at which comedian Michelle Wolf said of Sanders: "Like she burns facts, and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye."
"Like maybe she's born with it, maybe it's lies. It's probably lies," she said, as Sanders looked on uncomfortably from her seat at the head table a few feet away.
She also sparked debate last year when the Red Hen, a Virginia restaurant, asked her to leave because of her association with Trump.

That's why Netflix is so dominant. They've found a way to be very diverse and inclusive with their shows/movies on Asian-Americans, LGBTQ people, black people, Latinos. They have top executives who are Asian-American and African-African. They can afford to take the risks while others are stuck in the past.

They could make teen comedies that revolve around non-white teens, who are like half or more than half of today's teens.

Or make a romcom about Asian-Americans. Something that mainstream studios are hesitant to do.

Since Peter Thiel is gay, why wouldn't he welcome more shows about LGBTQ people?

Peter Thiel is a Trump backer. He's rich, gay...and bit of ninny. The thing is, he's a capitalist and he will try and cash in on that...even if he's against it personally. However if he's against it personally, likely means he has no idea how it works, or how it works to get it to work. In fact, I think he "lost" his case against Reid Hastings vision.

re: Netflix's drive to diversity, it's economic and strategic. Because traditional Hollywood has done little or next to nothing about diversity...there's a huge opportunity and Netflix figured it out. The big open secret about Hollywood movies is distribution. Hollywood has that locked like a vault. Anyone can in fact make a movie, could be bad or great...but without distribution in the U.S., you have a very slim chance of getting it seen, to say nothing about making a profit.

Netflix changed that. It opened the door, even if Peter Thiel hates diversity. I guess he still loves money.

It's not a surprise that big Hollywood players like Spielberg is against Netflix and Amazon produced movies having being eligible for Oscars. This is a turf war...but Netflix is literally inside homes, Hollywood movies, not so much. So old Hollywood wants to eliminate the comp from the awards.

Traditional Hollywood miscalculated what's going on with streaming and millennials and Gen-Z....or has made so much money the old way, they didn't care. Sure Hollywood is on the streaming band wagon now. However the whole streaming thing is more then tech, it's also a generational line of demarcations in viewing habits but also content. There's something to watch via the web for just about every niche audience. Streaming is linked to diversity in new ways, more democratic content and viewing platform.

Off of this, Netflix wisely saw an opportunity and started funding projects Hollywood wouldn't, because of race, racism or their prejudices. Meanwhile traditional Hollywood is still very white and very male. Look at the Motional Picture Academy membership. This is lack of diversity on all levels but until now Hollywood didn't have a serious economic challenger or reason to change. I doubt it will embrace diversity because it's the part of their power structure. So Netflix becomes the new power by embracing diversity that millennials and Gen-Z want, on a platform they grew up with. Of course the future demographic projections of diversity lines up with Netflix, the new platform.

Meanwhile old Hollywood is trying to straighten out the whole spanking the monkey in front of colleagues at business meetings, misogyny and racism problems. And they only seem to make comic book superhero crap.

I'd be willing to bet he would. But I don't think he's an identitarian -- he doesn't see the world, or see how the world looks at him, as centrally a gay man.

Netlfix isn't "dominant" because they "value diversity" in ways other companies do not, or can't, or whatever. They're dominant because they provide quality content at very cheap prices, which offers extreme consumer value.

Company's appealing to "diversity and inclusion" is a business decision first and foremost, and an optics decision second (which contributes to the first).

Netlfix has the funds to tap into these markets that major studios don't have the bandwith for, so to speak. Studios can only make and release a certain amount of movies every year.

U.S. Escalates Online Attacks on Russia's Power Grid

"Pentagon and intelligence officials described broad hesitation to go into detail with Mr. Trump about operations against Russia for concern over his reaction and the possibility that he might countermand it or discuss it with foreign officials, as he did in 2017 when he mentioned a sensitive operation in Syria to the Russian foreign minister."
