I worked at a school for crazy kids where we would physically restrain them. But we could only do it if they were causing themselves or others harm (or imminently in position to do so), and we certainly couldn't body slam them WWE style, nor could we put our hands on them simply because they were verbally taunting staff. However being disruptive in class to the point where it was escalating tension among other kids, we could physically remove them from the class. Sometimes putting a kid on the floor didn't look pretty.

If you hear the audio, the person was arrested by the second officer for supposedly pushing the first officer.

If they were arresting them for something else, why would the first officer run into them, then cycle past them and wait for the other officers to grab the person, rather than just grabbing them initially?

Agree that if the person did something elsewhere that justified arrest, there is nothing wrong with it, but that doesn't look like what happened.

I'm sure John Burris would be willing to fly back East and take that case on.

He was decommissioned. He still has a job likely because of due process, which would happen regardless of whether he is white or black. He should be fired. I recommend law school.

You actually posted a story where it is clear that the police officer should be charged and no longer allowed to be a police officer. This is exactly what happened. This police officer was charged, convicted, and he is now no longer allowed to be a police officer (in a manner consistent with the ridiculous due process rights that our public servants have).

Obviously, the system is deeply flawed but there's not enough (for me anyway) to tell how deeply. I don't think this is at all clearly written....probably because of the limited space allotted.

*What did the old law actually state?
*What does the new law actually state?
*What constitutes felony assault under NY law?
*How in the hell can what's shown in the video be misdemeanor attempted assault?
*Is the idea that the lesser charge makes the perp more likely to return to court?
*Said only in the video ...the woman has obtained an Order of Protection.
