Cops should be held to a higher standard. The citizens pay their salary, and their use of violence is sanctioned by the state. Making this an apples-to-apples comparison is not valid.

I'm willing to let them be held to a lower standard if they're willing to allow me to reduce the average salary of a policeman in my fairly peaceful town under 6 figures. Otherwise, yeah. You're paid for the risk and your responsibility is to subdue suspects peacefully. That's what the pepper spray and taser you're equipped with is for. And if you can't handcuff someone after tasing them, you are an inadequate police officer and it's better we weed you out ASAP before we start wasting good taxpayer money on a lifetime pension for you.

That is not my argument, and I think you know it's not. The argument is that this is not a 1:1 comparison.

It's not okay for anyone to loot, riot, or kill, but I would expect a MUCH lower percentage among cops than among the general population, because the cops are being paid to keep the peace.
