Thank you Evangelicals, Republicans, and dumb Independents for ensuring that the US will not achieve herd immunity for years. We are still going to achieve a good outcome, but the Trump vaccine hesitancy will keep Covid hanging around.

Beyond that, when the next pandemic hits and we have the ability to control it with early action, we won't be able to mobilize that action because 35% of our population won't take easy and basic health measures

Your attempts to manipulate a discussion with articles that tangentially sound relevant but are completely off topic are hilariously transparent.

Yes, there has been a problem with dumbass liberals getting on the internet and freaking themselves out about giving their kids autism or something and not giving their kids basic childhood vaccines. We have talked about it here and I have personally dumped on them.

If we were only dealing with the tiny percentage of cranks who are anti-vaxxers , we would be fine. We aren't. Unlike 2015, 60% of the people who are COVID VACCINE HESITANT are not liberal. Democrats and liberals are the groups most chomping at the bit to get the COVID VACCINE. Poll after poll shows this. And poll after poll shows that Republicans are by far the most hesitant and within that group Evangelicals are the most hesitant. The states that are hitting a wall on vaccinations are red states with the most evangelicals. The question of who didn't want to get their kids a measles shot in 2015 is not relevant to who doesn't want to get a Covid shot in 2021. Especially when you have actual data on the latter

Fully vaccinated people can:
  • Resume activities without wearing masks or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance
  • Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel or self-quarantine after travel
  • Refrain from testing before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after arriving back in the United States
  • Refrain from testing following a known exposure, if asymptomatic, with some exceptions for specific settings
  • Refrain from quarantine following a known exposure if asymptomatic
  • Refrain from routine screening testing if feasible

What kind of intellectual dishonesty and mental gymnastics does it require to go from the mayor of DC limiting activities at indoor weddings to "Liberals won't allow dancing"?

I guess the same kind of mental and moral contortions required of a self professed Christian to support Trump. You are such a flaming hypocrite. Morally bankrupt and mentally deficient is no way to go through life.

This all was fairly obvious weeks ago, but I guess we should just expect the CDC to be slow and overcautious at this point.

I think it was fairly obvious that it was where the studies were going from preliminary data, but it was fair to let the studies play out to their conclusion especially given having to retract would be disastrous and lets face it, once we got here there is no going back.

Yes, on some level I understand their over-caution, though it does seem like they could have been more open about where things were heading.

Individual examples do not justify any kind of walk back, because they claim was never that vaccinated people are 100% protected from getting or transmitting COVID, only that the chances are significantly reduced. The only way to prove that is to look at results across a large number of people, and that data backs up the claim.

You are presuming Maher is in the 5% not covered and that his situation is a rarity....both presumptions may be accurate...or not. I truly hope you are right and that the timing on all this is good and that we haven't missed a sweet spot for this relaxation that was a couple of months from now. Fingers crossed. I'm responsible for my own safety with regard to Covid. I expect no one to curtail their freedom to keep me safe.

*Fauci just went all in on the relaxation during an interview with Lester Holt. I have to go with that.

I don't need to presume. They have studied the existing vaccinated population by now and COVID cases are very rare, right along the lines of the efficacy the vaccines promised.

I will explain this with small words so you can understand.

They didn't catch it from a person who had the vaccine.

In fact, all eight had the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which has the lowest efficacy rate of the three vaccines currently in use. I'm glad I got Pfizer.

Because:

1. They got the vaccine with the lower efficacy number (JnJ).

2. Breakthroughs are still possible. We shouldn't be surprised to see some reports of examples like this.

However, the good news is that none of them became severely ill and only one showed any symptoms at all. That's also basically in line with what the vaccines promise. You might catch it, but the vaccines prevent you from dying.
