players championship at tpc sawgrass (jacksonville) 2nd round update:



after working late into thrusday nite on the lit up driving range with swing coach mark blackburn collin morikawa birdied his 1st two holes starting on the back nine en route to a 69 and is 4 under par & tied for 27th

continuing the trend of thursday's snapped hooks on the back nine (12, 14, 16 & 18) max homa pulled his opening fairway wood on the dogleg left par 4 10th hole into the wild palmetto grasses & had to play his 2nd shot backwards into a waste bunker for a triple bogey 7 enroute to a 75 & is tied for 55th...fyi, blackburn is also homa's swing coach too

after rinsing 2 balls into the agua aria on the dyeabolical short par 3 island green 17th hole, byeong hun an shot a 80 missing the cut & has withdrawn from next week's pga valspar tournament in favor of going home to lake nona

michael kim shot a 80 & missed the cut, he will be the only bear competing next week at the copperhead course at nearby innisbrook...michael got a good sense of humour

golf is hard (kinda like handstands for those born under scorpio skies with t-rex arms while the modern yoga teachers/classmates secretly laugh like mean girls)#

matthew wykoff: the texan gotta lotta experience & is ready to take the next step in becoming a lockdown starter

bastian swinney: the product of two +1 athletic parents, the interlachen high school grad gotta stay healthy to finally play to his vast potential

the transfers with starting experience:

rush reimer: the montana state grad got a fearless approach to life & is crazy azz athletic

players championship at tpc sawgrass 3rd round update:

yeah them bears mumbling a lot on the course with collin even audibly muttering after a chunked 7 iron tee ball on the par 3 3rd hole "****, it didn't even reach the bunker"

collin morikawa is a ball striking machine but missing 4 putts under 5 feet got him shaking his head in confusion en route to a 70 and is 6 under par & tied for 27th

despite a remarkable 17 birdies during the first 3 rounds max homa shot a 74 and is 1 over par & tied for 68th place...max's undoing wuz yet another snapped hook on the par 14th hole which resulted in a 2nd tee ball pushed way right into the rough...playing quickly with anger homa didn't wait for the gallery to move & almost decapitated an encroaching dumb azz spectator when his long iron barely missed killing the dude & instead banged into a palm tree & bounced into a fairway bunker...long story short, a 9 on a par 4 might be normal for guys at peacock gap or san jose muni but no es bueno for guys on the pga tour, got it?

^^ philbert, thx for posting this video, it wuz a pretty dangerous situation (read my post from yesterday re: max's anger in playing the shot quickly before the gallery could be safely moved) & that fan could've been decapitated for reals

it's pga protocol to give a hit fan by a ball a signed glove in compensation but not sure that getting ur skull treated at jacksonville regional hospital is worth it particularly if one is relying upon su cabasa por la headstand when posting up

yeah max's 2024 florida spring break didn't got exactly as planned or something

^^ goldy, my take heading into tomorrow's 2024 spring ball is that the cal's monster offensive line early leaders to be the starting 5 gonna include tj session, sioape vatikani, matthew wykoff, bastian swinney & rush reimer right now but make no mistake about it there's gonna be some young ones competing for acc starting duties

players championship at tpc sawgrass 4th round update:

collin morikawa is pounding his drives accurately (hit 38 of 56 fairways for the tournament) but knocked his ball into the agua fria over the par 3 17th island hole & shot a 74 to finish the week 4 under par

question for homa nation, how do you make 22 birdies in a 72 hole tournament & finish only 1 under par?...shocky's answer is max homa drove the ball crooked azz (hitting only 26 of 56 fairways no es bueno) & shot a 71 today before his private chartered flight back to the desert, no commercial flights for our boy max

It should be noted that the spring portal window for football doesn't open until April 15 and runs to April 30. Only the basketball portal opened at midnight Eastern tonight. It runs for 45 days.

^ correct & that's why cal's spring game extravaganza is april 20th as that saturday may be a key recruiting official visit day for portal transfer prospects in berkeley...the 2024 spring ball 2 deeps will be established by then & potential roster construction needs will be evident along with scholly player departures (medical retirements, etc)

Look at the timing: The game is on 4/20 and if it starts at 2:30, it might be over at about... 4:20! In Berzerkeley! I could see us somehow leveraging this to help with recruiting, but I'm afraid if that's left up to the Marketing Dept, it's going to get botched...

So this is where Shocky comes in... create some excitement, man!

literally the worst defender in the pac 12, didn't compete for loose balls & offensively wanted to stand in a corner & jack up 3 pointers on a team that needs an interior physical presence from the bigs

foxy, the bears got killed this season particularly on the road due to a lack of physical defensive play & most notably at point guard

he has't entered the transfer portal yet (but is expected to do so) but oregon state point guard with 3 years of remaining eligibility jordan pope from oakley (contra costa county) & prolific prep (napa) is a legit elite player that makes everybody on the court look better (that didn't happen with the strawberry jam cone) that would welcome the opportunity to play his home games in front of moms at the #1 ranked public university in the world

the monster is a big fan of signed 2024 jeremiah wilkinson, pope's potential joining the bears would allow wilkinson to play more of a combo scoring guard role which is probably more suited to his skillset rather than a pure facilitator/distributor at the 1

if he enters the portal, this recruitment makes a lotta sense for all parties
