Tells you something about the quality of the nba in those days, "Gee, I think I'll try a little of this", not to mention the MLB , "or a little of that".... "no, I think acting is where my real talent lies!"

If a guy today tried dabbling, he wouldn't sniff the G league.
I imagine Tim Tebow could have been an all-star forward in 1947!

A co-worker was married to Julie's mother. I attended her mother's funeral, Julie was there. Her step father had several Julie stories, she convinced him that OJ was innocent; evidently Finley had a nick name, white snake. A lot of stories about Julie (Tawny) were circular; when you got back to start, the story stayed the same but the names kept changing. There was more than one ex-USC football star in her life. Her mother died of lung cancer, even though she never smoked; my friend told me at the time I was lucky, my wife was still attractive, five years later my wife also died of COPD and lung cancer, at an even younger age. Oh and my wife's daughter's name is Julie. The carousel is starting again...

I knew him a little bit. Fantastic person and the world is a better place for him having been in it. Sad to hear he passed away.

Norman Lloyd was born in 1914, the same year as Joe DiMaggio and Hedy LaMarr and Joe Lewis.

He died today at age 106.

He worked with iconic directors Charles Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock and Judd Apatow.

He appeared in Saboteur and Modern Family.

I saw him run at Edwards in, I think, 1972. Might have been the Kennedy Games? There's an article on the MercNews site with a photo of him wearing a Bay Area Striders that looks like it was possibly taken at that event. Those meets at Edwards were sure fun! I'll think about that rather than the sadness of yet another great athlete from our past dying way too soon.

Yes, the Kennedy Games were a good time. Think I went to a couple of them. I do remember being there in 1974 for the big attraction which was Ivory Crockett running the 100M race. IIRC, Donald Quarrie beat both him and another 100M heavyweight (I don't recall the name).
