The first time I became aware of the Fall of the American Empire was when I watched Jay Leno's bit Jay Walking many years ago (watch on YouTube).
The most generous explanation I can resolve myself to is that people get so excited about seeing Jay on the street or the prospect of getting interviewed for TV that they can't think straight.
Sadly, I think I'm wrong. People really are that dumb!
They I assume interview a dozen people to get a few funny answers.
Damn. I hope he got to see something before he passed on.bearister said:

*A Greatest Hits Album of 3 songs, but hey, they 'taint bad. Lots of AM radio play. In the '70's when you flew and plugged the cheesy headphone set into the armrest, you could count on BTO songs. Airline Muzak.
*Kinda Doobies Lite

I could never quite decide if Jerry Springer caused the decline of American civilization, or merely reflected it. Probably mostly the latter, but he was a catalyst, to be sure.
…and the Kardashians and their bleached cloaca delivered the kill shot.
…and the viewing audience who gave it life via ratings. Yes, dajo, this means you.
…and, I was going to say, most of the many human hours wasted on all of BI can certainly be considered in this examination of the decline of American civilization.

Who says American civilization is declining? I see great gains made in American civilization. Crime rates have certainly decreased tremendously from the era of Jerry Springer. We have more equality and more openness.
The negative aspects of our culture today mostly come from people who are upset about the progress of American civilization. They are a loud, vocal, sometimes violent, sometimes treasonous minority of despicables.
Bob Dylan said of Lightfoot, "Every time I hear a song of his, it's like I wish it would last forever. I loved his melodies. I loved his storytelling lyrics. His songs will grow greater with time passing."Eastern Oregon Bear said:
If you could read my mind, you'd know that I'm bummed out because Gordon Lightfoot passed away. Great singer and songwriter.

If I missed it, gosh, it must just be that people keep dying and dying and I can't keep up with them all, because, don't you know, my brain cells are dying and dying, too.
Anyways, I'm glad to see my thread is going so well - business is booming!
The only concern is 'who will post my demise when I go?'.
If he had only built People's Park at his Berkeley home, it would have saved us decades of problems.concordtom said:
