William Friedkin, Oscar-winning director of the movies below, has died.

Directed 2 of the greatest car chase scenes in movies.

Fun fact: His wife, Sherry Lansing, was a member of the University of California Board of Regents from 1999 to 2022.

My connection to William Friedkin was through his former fiancee and the mother of his son, Jennifer Nairn-Smith who I interacted with regularly for a few years maybe a decade ago or more. She was a dancer, is a dance teacher, and also sells (or sold) real estate.

He denied her son was his for a long time, although he ultimately accepted that fact.

He provided for her and his son, but not in the way he could have or should have given his wealth and that of Sherry. They met on the set of The Exorcist and she was with him during his meteoric rise but he was a womanizer and also afraid of commitment.

He was a good filmmaker, but not a good father and a horrible human being.

Ha! One of my childhood friends was the (alleged) son of a famous married Hollywood person. This famous person publicly admitted to being in my friend's mom's home 9 months before my friend was born. But he went to his grave denying he was the father, so there was no relationship.

This is a little different in that they were together for 4-5 years so it is not like it was a one night stand. He knew damn well the child was his but he wanted to punish her. Okay, whatever, but to also punish his son was lame.

He did buy a relatively modest house for Jennifer and later on he did use his connections to help his son (who is a film editor) get some work, but relative to what he could have done it wasn't much and he was an abusive jerk to top it off.

He was worth $100M and Sherry another $350M (granted, her money is her money but it's not like he would be destitute) and that is all he did? Really pathetic.

Edit:

Speaking of that, have you seen how Aaron and Candy Spelling have treated Tori? And they actually acknowledge she is their daughter. What the hell is wrong with some people?

I think there are people out there who fool around but remain committed to their relationship. Bill Clinton for example is a womanizer but he is also very committed to Hillary.

Bill Richardson, a veteran diplomat and former New Mexico governor, is dead at 75

Sat, September 2, 2023, 9:24 AM PDT

WASHINGTON - Bill Richardson - a 2008 presidential candidate, former New Mexico governor, former secretary of energy and U.N. ambassador under the Clinton administration and congressman - died Friday in his sleep at his summer home in Chatham, Massachusetts. He was 75 years old.

Amid his career as a politician and diplomat, Richardson became known for his role in freeing hostages and other wrongly detained Americans. President Bill Clinton helped give him the nickname "undersecretary for thugs."

Mickey Bergman, vice president of the Richardson Center for Global Engagement, commented that "Governor Richardson passed away peacefully in his sleep last night."

"He lived his entire life in the service of others including both his time in government and his subsequent career helping to free people held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad," Bergman said. "There was no person that Governor Richardson would not speak with if it held the promise of returning a person to freedom. The world has lost a champion for those held unjustly abroad and I have lost a mentor and a dear friend."

Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson holds a conference call at the Richardson Center for Global Engagement in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In recent years, he spent much of his time as a private diplomat representing the growing number of American families seeking to free their loved ones unjustly detained abroad. He filled a whole biography with tales of his high-stakes meetings with tribal leaders and tyrants, writing about brokering deals with Fidel, Saddam, Hugo and "a Kim or two."
