concordtom, it was perfect. We (Okaydo, select others and I) got the joke and chuckled. More importantly, less savvy posters, who otherwise might someday be tempted to post obituaries elsewhere, saw that you called out Okaydo and will think about that before they commit a transgression. (To them, this was like the ol' put-the-transgressor's-head-on-a-post-and-display-it-in-front-of-the-castle ploy.)

Well done!

I suspected after I posted the above that you, in turn, were pulling my leg.
Either I'm dumb and fell for it, or you need to do better at showing the wrinkle in your posts. Or both.

By the way, can the head on the post in front of the castle be Trump's?????
I'm definitely very excited about this prospect you are proposing!!!!!!

If we can obtain Said Head, we could open a museum and make billions!

Today I learned that Good Frikken Chicken in Bernal Heights closed about a year ago. I used to walk about two miles from 24th St. BART to delight in their chicken and spread their spicy garlic sauce (Toum) all over my body.

It may be a good day for chickens, but it's a sad day for the rest of us.

RIP Good Frikken Chicken.

I was fond of Dung Boy's Breakfast with Elvis schtick on the morning show. I was buddies with Kevin the Rat's brother when we were at St. Paschal's. They had 9 kids in their family. I think when his bro and I were in 8th grade, Kevin was in 2nd.

Rest in Peace Dickey Betts.

I saw the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker at the Oakland Coliseum Arena in September, 1973 (any source that says Oakland Auditorium is in error). Duane Allman and Berry Oakley were deceased by then. Greg Allman and Dickey ably shouldered the load.

This live performance instrumental from 1971 (when all band members were alive) was written by Dickey. Duane and he traded serious guitar licks. It was a virtuoso performance by the band.

I'm sorry you'll no longer be able to relish in the habit. But, a question… how did that work with the love making? It could be that it added an extra amount of funkiness that was found to be irresistible. Or, perhaps just "me time".

Either way, sauce slathered all over your body…. I dunno…. It just conjures up an animalistic picture of you I never had before.

I didn't know the guy, but that's one heck of an obituary.

Heart attack, age 64. Went into full cardiac arrest this morning after calling in sick.

Shame.

" Otto's body was punished greatly during his NFL career, resulting in nearly 74 operations, including 28 on his knee (nine of them during his playing career) and multiple joint replacements. His joints became riddled with arthritis, and he developed debilitating back and neck problems.[5] In his book, "The Pain of Glory" Otto described near-death experiences from medical procedures, including fighting off three life-threatening infections due to complications from his artificial joints. During one six-month stretch, he was without a right knee joint because he had to wait for an infection to heal before another artificial knee could be implanted. Otto eventually had to have his right leg amputated on August 1, 2007."

Wow, 86 years old after putting his mind and body through a meat grinder. I can't even begin to imagine how he endured it, what he felt and thought about day after day. I recalled signs for some Auburn fast food joint. Burger King.

Someone said he was a mountain of a man, so I looked that up, too. 6'2" and 255, which somewhere it said he worked to build himself up to.

Good golly, I don't think he'd even make a team roster at just 255 today. Average centers are 6'3" and 300 pounds.

15 years.
210 games played
210 starts.

He played 6 AFC/AFL championships and won only one time. The 5 losses came against teams that 1 game later won the Super Bowl.*

He was replaced in 75 by 4th year C Dave Dalby, who won the Super Bowl following the 76 season.

*He won one AFL/AFC championship in 1967 against the Houston Oilers with the Raiders, but lost five: in 1968, 1969, 1970, 1973, and 1974 to the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Colts, Miami Dolphins, and Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively, with all five teams winning the Super Bowl.

BRUSSELS (AP) Charlie Colin, bassist and founding member of the band Train, best known for their early-aughts hits like "Drops of Jupiter" and "Meet Virginia," has died. He was 58.

Colin's sister Carolyn Stephens confirmed her brother's death to The Associated Press on Wednesday. He died after slipping and falling in the shower while house-sitting for a friend in Brussels, celebrity website TMZ.com reported.

Colin grew up in Southern California, later attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. After college, he played in a group called Apostles guitarist Jimmy Stafford and singer Rob Hotchkiss. The band eventually dissolved, and Colin moved to Singapore for a year to write jingles.

Eventually, Colin, Hotchkiss and Stafford relocated to San Francisco, where Train formed in the early '90s with singer Pat Monahan. Colin brought in drummer Scott Underwood to round out the group, according to an interview with Colin and Hotchkiss in Berklee's alumni magazine.

As a founding member of the pop-rock band, Colin played on the band's first three records, 1998's self-titled album, 2001's "Drops of Jupiter" and 2003's "My Private Nation." The latter two releases peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

….
Former Train bassist Charlie Colin, 58, died after slipping in the shower. Here's why experts say bathrooms are uniquely hazardous places.

Charlie Colin, former bassist for the band Train, died after falling in the bathroom of a friend's home where he was house-sitting. He was 58.

Colin's cause of death is shocking, but bathroom injuries are fairly common. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 234,000 people went to the emergency room for non-fatal injuries related to bathrooms in 2008. Most of these bathroom injuries were related to the bathtub or shower area.

Though the CDC reported on non-fatal accidents in the bathroom, falls can be fatal, particularly in the case of older adults. In 2021, the CDC reported that between 2020 and 2021, 38,742 adults 65 and older died as a result of unintentional falls. However, all ages, especially those 41 to 60 years old, are susceptible to falls in the bathroom, according to a 2018 study.

"It is important to understand that the risk of falling in the bathroom isn't limited to the elderly," Brittany Ferri, an occupational therapist with the National Council on Aging, tells Yahoo Life with Colin's death tragically proving that point. "People of all ages should be careful and aware of the potential dangers," she continues. "It's a reminder that anyone can benefit from taking precautions to prevent falls, regardless of age or health status."

What makes bathrooms particularly dangerous places?
Ferri says that health factors such as low blood sugar, poor vision, dizziness or medication side effects can increase the chances of falling.

However, bathrooms, in general, are particularly hazardous places in the home. The room itself has falling risk factors, such as:

Slippery, wet floors

Hard surfaces without carpet, such as tile

Lack of grab bars or places to steady oneself

The presence of immovable fixtures that create obstacles

Poor lighting

Loose bath mats or rugs

Bathrooms also tend to be smaller rooms in the home, which can make maneuvering around them more difficult. This could more easily lead to tripping (particularly in cluttered areas) and falling. People may also be more likely to injure themselves by hitting their head on a sink or counter.

Amanda Joy, a physician assistant and associate medical director of MedStar Health Urgent Care, tells Yahoo Life that there are also times in the bathroom when you may quickly change position, which can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure that leads to lightheadedness or even fainting. That could come from picking something up in the tub, or standing up from the toilet. Showering in extremely hot water can also cause this blood pressure change, she says.

Too bad about Charlie Colin. He was a member of Train in the early years when they were a good band. Before they became a simple pop act.

A lot of time falls are only a symptom of neurodegenerative diseases that creep up on older people and affect their motor skills, but yeah, better physical layout and accommodations like extra handles around the bathtub are a good thing.

In this person's case, you have to wonder if other factors weren't present, perhaps he had a fainting event, was under the influence or had something else that caused him to die from a bathroom fall. Normal men in their 50s do slip in their bathtub, but they will brace themselves and attenuate the impact of their fall.

Some Bathrooms tend to have their own unique slippery spots. I was at a hotel in London last summer and almost took a header. It was cartoonish how I scrambled to save myself from a serious disaster. Not funny!
In one of my own home tub/shower, there's a stance and footsteps weight that works best, because it could be slippery otherwise.

He was a houseguest. Maybe the new rhythm was a factor. We can never know.

My sister in law's senior mother fell and smacked her head on something hard in the bathroom. I think the counter, or porcelain lower. She fainted, bled out somehow from the head trauma.

I posted the article about bathroom safety because it's good to be aware of such things. It happens. Don't let your nice tile floors get the better of you.

'General Hospital's' Johnny Wactor killed in catalytic converter heist; family, friends 'heartbroken'

Sun, May 26, 2024 at 3:58 PM PDT

"General Hospital" actor Johnny Wactor was fatally shot early Saturday when he came upon three men trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case.

The killing occurred around 3:25 a.m. when the owner of a vehicle encountered three people near Pico Boulevard and Hope Street attempting to steal the car part, said Officer Jader Chaves, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. The man was shot by one of the thieves before all three fled in a vehicle, said Chaves. The officer did not identify the victim but said he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A source on Sunday confirmed to The Times that the victim was Wactor, who played Brando Corbin on "General Hospital" from 2020 to 2022. He also had roles on other shows, including "Westworld," "Criminal Minds" and "Station 19."

Wactor, who had been working as a bartender in downtown L.A. on Saturday evening, was walking a co-worker to her car after their shift, Wactor's brother, Grant Wactor, told The Times on Sunday. On the way, he noticed a group of men crowded around his car, and he confronted them because he thought he was being towed.

That was when he was shot.

The thieves were after Wactor's catalytic converter, police said. The exhaust emission control device is typically found in the undercarriage of a vehicle and contains precious metals including rhodium, palladium and platinum. Thieves can make hundreds of dollars selling them to auto parts suppliers or scrapyards, where they can be melted down and the valuable metals extracted.

"My mother is tough as nails, but she's broken down to the bone," said Grant Wactor, Johnny's younger brother. "We have to get him back to Charleston [S.C.]. It's just a shame. It seems like it was just the wrong place, wrong time."

Wactor, 37, left "General Hospital" in 2022 when his popular character was written out of the show. At the time, he told Soap Opera Digest he enjoyed the show's large and loyal fan base.

"It was all new to me, and it was a blessing," he said. "It made it fun to go to work and then be excited about seeing people react to the storylines you were in. That they actually cared was really cool."

Grant Wactor said his brother was drawn to acting from an early age. Growing up in Summerville, S.C., Johnny participated in every play he could in his elementary and middle schools. Not long after graduating from the College of Charleston in 2009, he packed up his Honda Civic and made the cross-country drive to Los Angeles to begin his acting career.

"I can't emphasize how hard of a worker he was," Grant Wactor said. "He would flip the Scrabble board at home because he was so competitive. But he was also one of the most charismatic people I knew. Because when he talked or listened, you could tell it was genuine."

Johnny Wactor had recently been exploring opportunities in screenwriting while working temporarily as a bartender.

"He lived life his way," Grant Wactor said. "He did exactly what he wanted, even to his last day. That's who he was day in, day out. He walked the walk."
